Position Summary

Pierce College is hiring six (6) Basic Life Support Evaluators.

This position is open until filled.

The mission of Pierce College is to create quality educational opportunities for a diverse community of learners to thrive in an evolving world.

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Evaluator (Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 3) coordinates professional/technical instructional support activities in an applied science teaching program (Emergency Medical Services Program). This position entails senior-level responsibilities, including planning, conducting, demonstrating, and evaluating coursework within a professional-technical (pro-tech) educational environment.

Key duties involve ensuring State and National compliance by documenting completed skills evaluations, as well as collaborating with assigned faculty and Senior EMS Instructors (SEI) to develop instructional programs, demonstration models, and laboratory procedures. This position reports to the EMS Program Director.

Essential Functions

The BLS (Basic Life Support) Evaluator (Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 3) will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

Instruction and Classroom Support

Create and facilitate realistic, culturally relevant scenarios for classroom and laboratory execution.

Provide critical, real-time evaluation of students' performance in State/National mandated skills.

Provide direction and guidance to ICS II regarding instruction of State/National mandated skills.

Develop class/staff schedules one to two terms in advance.

Assist in providing State paperwork to the State Department of Health (EMS Division) in the required format and time-frame for every class.

Acts as coordinator of laboratory, controlling all equipment, chemicals and use of space.

Direct assigned laboratory personnel to ensure completion of assigned task.

Evaluate equipment specifications and make purchase recommendations.

Customer/Team Building Relations

Tutor/mentor students with academic challenges and performative concerns.

Train and mentor new/part-time EMS Evaluators.

Perform the duties of Lab Technicians.

Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education Required

Some college along with college level credit coursework completed in Emergency Medical Services, Medical, First Response, Military Medic, Fire Services, Homeland Security, Paramedic, or Nursing.

Experience Required

Three (3) years field experience as a Washington State Emergency Medical Technician or higher.

Special Requirements

Must hold a current Washington State EMS Evaluator Certification and the ability to maintain it during duration of employment.

Basic Life Savers CPR –Healthcare professional Certification and the ability to maintain it during duration of employment.

The successful candidate must consent to and pass a criminal background check after a conditional offer of employment.

Monitor budgets, track expenditures, and provides recommendations for budget development, staffing, and equipment.

Willing and able to follow written and oral instructions.

Terms of Employment

Pierce College is recruiting to fill six (6) vacancies. This is a non-permanent, part time (approximately 17 hours per week, not to exceed 69 hours per month), nonscheduled classified 18 month appointment with Pierce College. The nature of the work is sporadic and does not fit a particular pattern. The primary work location will be at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom campus. Occasional travel to Pierce College campuses or sites may occur. Work hours will vary with occasional evenings and weekend work, and occasional travel as required. This position requires regular and consistent attendance.

Salary & Benefits

The starting salary of this position is $25.20 an hour dependent upon qualifications, with periodic increments up to $30.70 an hour. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Physical Work Environment

This position requires working both indoors in an open office environment, necessitating visual concentration on detail, dexterity, and precision, amidst frequent noise and interruptions, as well as outdoors and in various locations, including within an ambulance, automobiles, and confined spaces such as small bathrooms.
