The City of Puyallup is accepting applications for a Treatment Plant Maintenance Specialist position.

This is an experienced, journey level position with technical duties troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing complex mechanical equipment. Mechanical equipment includes, but is not limited to, pumps, motors, mechanical drives and gear reducers, rotating fine screens, centrifugal blowers, heat exchangers, compressors, large diesel generators, conveyors, and other related wastewater treatment plant equipment.

The successful candidate will require familiarity and working experience with 480 volt, 3-phase motors and control circuits as well as familiarity with computerized industrial automation networks and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Because of the skilled nature of this position, the incumbent will significantly draw upon past work skills, experience, training, and education to perform journey level work.

Work is performed at the City’s activated sludge wastewater treatment plant including all buildings, structures, appurtenances, off-site pump stations, and the City’s closed landfill gas migration systems.

The City of Puyallup is situated near the foothills of scenic Mount Rainier in the beautiful Puget Sound region, 10 miles east of Tacoma and approximately 35 miles south of Seattle. Puyallup benefits from a strong, diversified economy and is a community of 43,000.

Salary is $86,739 - $92,738 per year and the city offers a highly competitive benefits package and State retirement program.

Requirements include:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; two years of experience strictly in a maintenance capacity at a secondary wastewater treatment plant; or, significant industrial mechanical repair experience; or, graduation from a post-secondary vocational, or other program of training where skills and knowledge related to this position may have been learned; or, military experience and work in a specialty related to this type of work; or, some combination of education and experience that would suggest the ability to successfully perform the duties of this position. Possession of or the ability to obtain, and maintain throughout employment, a valid Washington State driver’s license. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
