UW Medical Center - Montlake has an outstanding opportunity for an RN Patient Throughput Coordinator (PTC). This position is for current/recent UW Medical Center – Montlake RNs only.WORK SCHEDULE

90% days and 75% or 90% nights, 8 and 12 hour shifts.POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

In close partnership with the Transfer Center and Admitting office, the PTC oversees placement of all admissions (elective and emergent) in accordance with clinical standards and guidelines. The PTC is responsible for ensuring that all patients are admitted to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission and determining if the patient is a candidate for observation or inpatient status. The PTC collaborates with the House Supervisor, department charge nurses, Transfer Center and clinical leaders and facilitates appropriate utilization of health care resources.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitates appropriate placement of patients based on level of care required.

In partnership with the Transfer Center, Triage MD and Admitting Department, monitors bed availability on all units including ICU, MIC, and SCCA. Initiates and delegates appropriate action when the demand for beds exceeds the supply.

Maintains ongoing scan of admissions, ED activity, OR and PACU activity.

Performs full Pre-admit and/or Bed Requests for unplanned admits coming through the ABCC.

Uses clinical judgment and collaborative skills to make decisions in the best interest of the patient.

Has detailed knowledge of daily schedules, census and inputs from all sources. Communicates with key staff to meet goal of expedited admission on a continuous basis.

Provides rapid response and expedites patient admission.

Attends medical center wide patient flow meeting as applicable to expedite patient placement. REQUIREMENTS

Current or recent RN at UW Medical Center - Montlake

At least 2 years experience in one or more areas of medical surgical or critical care nursing

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Proficient computer knowledge and skills with all systems and existing technology relating to staffing and patient flow. Ability to adapt to changing technology requirements.

Current State of Washington Registered Nurse Licensure.
