New graduate registered nurses, or registered nurses without acute care hospital experience, may apply to our Residency RN/Transition to Practice candidate bank at www.uw.edu/jobs. Please make sure you complete all required assessments (questionnaires) for the position and add your resume. If you had previously applied for other positions through UWHires, be sure to update your online resume so that it is current. Our application system does not allow you to partially complete an assessment and go back later to finalize it. Reference information requested in an assessment may be provided later if necessary. When should I apply, and can I apply before I receive my Registered Nurse License? Please apply during your final quarter/semester of your nursing program or later. You may apply before you are licensed, but you must hold an Active Washington State Registered Nurse License, Active Temporary Practice Permit or Active Multistate License prior to starting employment. What should be included on my resume? Your resume should include your entire education and work history, and provide information about your clinical experiences (clinical areas of focus, facilities where completed, types of units/departments, dates and number of clinical hours, as well as your senior practicum/capstone experience) and graduation date (month and year). Do not feel restricted to one page, as our applicant tracking system does not have page parameters. Do I need to include other work experience, even if it was not in a health care position? Please include all work experience on your resume. Can I submit a cover letter separately to you? Cover letters are not needed as a part of the application process. Can I submit letters of reference and clinical evaluations to you? Please keep your letters of reference and clinical evaluations until you have the opportunity to interview. How many residency positions are available? Some residencies, such as Critical Care and Perioperative, have specific start dates. How can I track the status of my application? Otherwise your application is active and under consideration until the candidate bank closes. How long until I hear from someone? Your application is reviewed by the recruiters and remains active in the candidate bank. If there is an opportunity for you to interview, we will contact you. How long does my application stay active? Your application stays active as long as the candidate bank is open. We typically open a new residency RN candidate bank every 3-4 months. Does my application automatically roll over to the new candidate bank, or do I need to apply again? Your application does not roll over to the new candidate bank. You will need to re-apply.
