OverviewAs the SEO Manager, you’ll share accountability for the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Program and organic search traffic channel to increase organic search traffic across our websites. You will focus on our people when hiring, building career growth, increasing happiness and engagement, managing performance, building team culture, protecting psychological safety, and coaching. You will evaluate our processes and ensure their timeliness, metrics, strategic plan, and decisions are well considered. As the leader of SEO Program Management, you may be working closely with each member of the team as they optimize different portions of REI web properties, or you may work directly with software engineers, product managers, designers, writers, editors, or content strategists. No matter the day, your leadership, recommendations, influence, guidance, and partnership will help shape the digital content and web experiences which are used by millions of REI Co-op members and customers.Responsibilities and QualificationsLeading the Way (team leadership, coaching and development responsibilities for this “manager of staff”)

Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to foster a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork.

Drives the strategy and supports implementation of company programs to promote REI's key messages.

Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results while ensuring legal and operational compliance.

Oversees training, development, and staffing decisions, conducting performance reviews.

Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to achieve departmental and company goals.

Establishes and maintains visibility within the department and monitors operational statistics to take appropriate action.

Your Planning & Navigating Requirements (the plans the job is responsible for creating and executing, and how the job ensures they are implemented)

Define and deliver program strategy, encompassing goals, roadmap, requirements, and resourcing.

Foster cross-divisional relationships to achieve business objectives and influence organizational direction.

Manage prioritization of SEO investments for optimal customer benefit.

Align portfolio with REI's digital strategy through annual planning and budgeting.

Collaborate with divisional leaders to support corporate initiatives effectively.

Research market trends and identify competitive threats, implementing plans for maintaining competitiveness.

Monitor and analyze customer behavior to drive sales and conversion on digital platforms.

Develop and communicate SEO strategy to enhance traffic and engagement.

Establish program standards and best practices, integrating them into content processes.

Provide training on SEO best practices across the organization.

Drive baseline reporting and identify opportunities to enhance natural search impact.

Track program budgets and oversee associated components.

Collaborate with development and business teams to prioritize and execute program initiatives.

Evaluate and enhance program reporting and monitoring tools.

Guide technical and content teams about SEO optimization.

Inform the organization on SEO capabilities, goals, and achievements.

Required Skills & Experience

SEO & Ecommerce Experience: 8+ years designing and executing enterprise-scale SEO strategies and tactics, with a preference for experience at a Retailer with physical stores in addition to ecommerce.

Leadership experience: 3+ years managing teams and performance standards.

8+ years of experience in e-commerce or related websites

Technical proficiency: Proficiency in SEO technical skills, including keyword research, link building, on-page optimization, and technical factors such as JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and XML sitemaps.

Analytical Skills: Proficiency in using SEO analytics tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Moz, Ahrefs, Brightedge, Botify, etc., to track performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

Practical understanding of mobile-first SEO marketing strategy.

Knowledge of front-end web technology: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Track record of developing program plans that meet or exceed goals.

Recognized industry expertise with proven success.

Established and maintained relationships to drive shared learnings and program understanding.

Experience in Agile Scrum or Kanban principles preferred.

Proficiency in JIRA, Confluence, and Slack

Strong proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Capacity-building through effective employee development and supervision.
