Together we are empowered to make an even greater impact on the health and well-being of our communities.ResponsibilitiesJob Summary:This position provides critical project support for assigned Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) departments and leaders. The internship program content varies according to organizational need, and allows the incumbent to learn from healthcare leaders as they provide project support. This is generally an assignment of 10 weeks and coordinated in conjunction with Degrees of Change, a 501(c)3 educational organization. Under the direction and mentorship of a Sponsor, an incumbent may be assigned to assist with organizational projects emphasizing operational, financial and strategic aspects of a multi-facility healthcare system. Specific work assignments will vary based on the specific needs and priorities of the organization as well as the interests, strengths, and knowledge/experience of the incumbent.Assignments include, but are not limited to: preparation of strategic plans; research and program development; certificate of need application and site planning; productivity management and utilization studies; initiatives relating to process, quality and/or revenue cycle improvements; and business and program development.Incumbent generally works under direct supervision and may determine the best approach to accomplish tasks. Project management support activities may involve working with various levels of VMFH staff, physicians, community members and vendor organizations.Essential Tasks:

Accompanies assigned Sponsor as needed gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of a healthcare leader; attends meetings, observes the leader in day-to-day interactions, and learns directly from the VMFH leader the skills and knowledge needed in order to perform in a healthcare leadership capacity.

Attends a wide variety of interdisciplinary team/committee meetings to observe management-level decision-making and problem-solving activities, explain analyses/findings/ recommendations and make formal presentations.

Provides support on varied and complex special projects as assigned by the Sponsor or designee; documents activities and may prepare a variety of reports and other materials relating to project issues/status/accomplishments; creates specific deliverables to meet goals that have been mutually agreed upon with the Sponsor. Project facilitation may involve working with various level of staff, physicians, community members and vendor organizations.

Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services.

Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served

Performs related duties as required.

QualificationsEducation/Work Experience Requirements

Candidates for this position must be actively engaged in attaining an Undergraduate or Graduate degree relevant to the service line area to which they are assigned.

Candidates must be enrolled in this internship program via the Degrees of Change Seed Internship Program.
