Giddens School Extended Day Program
Giddens School offers an inclusive, multi-age Extended Day program that is designed to engage the interests of all students in a warm and caring environment. The main responsibility of the extended day teacher is to provide highly engaging project-based activities with students, while maintaining a positive, safe, and fun environment. Giddens School part-time extended day hours are Monday to Friday 1:45 - 5:45 pm, with options for additional hours during school breaks and non-school days.
Specific Responsibilities
Supervise preschool and prekindergarten aged children in our afterschool program
Plan a selection of highly engaging projects/activities each day that are appropriate and adaptable for ages within assigned group, and that promote an atmosphere of fun and collaboration
Develops and maintain positive relationships with students
Initiates growth and change in own professional development, seeking feedback and other opportunities to learn
Create a responsive classroom environment that attends to the positive social-emotional development of children
Supervise students in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, the classroom and playground
Provide a professional level of communication with students, families, and Giddens staff
Complete all necessary paperwork and other duties on time
Education and Philosophy
Previous professional experience working with early childhood and/or school age children
Must have experience in lesson and activity planning/implementation, and classroom management, or a willingness to learn these skills
Must have a core appreciation and love for teaching, exploring, and playing with children
Requirements
First Aid/CPR and BBP and HIV training
Produce a current TB test result
Pass a background check
Complete 30 hour Merit/STARS training
Degree in Education or related field preferred
Compensation
Compensation is competitive with independent schools in the Seattle area. The hourly rate for this position is $27.50 per hour. Not eligible for medical benefits.
