The mission of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal Department of Public Safety is to protect life and property, maintain order, investigate crimes, enforce all applicable laws and ordinances, protect natural resources, enforce Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribal Fishing, Hunting, and Forest codes, investigate violations, arrest and issue citations on violators within the boundaries of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Reservation and within the boundaries of the Point No Point Treaty Area.

The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, originally known as the Nux Sklai Yem or The Strong People, are descendants of the Salish peoples with ancestral ties to the Kitsap Peninsula that date back at least 1,000 years. Many of the Port Gamble S’Klallam’s members—totaling over 1,400—live on the Tribe’s reservation, which is located on the northern tip of Kitsap County in Washington state, near the neighboring towns of Kingston, Poulsbo, Indianola, Hansville, Port Gamble, and Bainbridge Island.

Kitsap County is known for its outdoor recreational opportunities—including a well-maintained trail system—as well as award-winning restaurants, highly-ranked public schools, and picturesque, friendly communities. Salary is competitive with range dependent on experience and individual qualifications.

JOB SUMMARY

The Academic Coach, under the direction of the Career and Education Program manager is responsible for identifying students’ talents and areas in need of improvement; helping them develop skills to move forward academically toward their future endeavors. Within the schools, help support and maintain the academic, social and cultural climate for S’Klallam students. The Academic Coach is responsible for becoming a strong team member to assure continuity of the program. The Academic Coach works collaboratively with school district staff, Career and Education Program Manager and Education Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-Education/Experience: Associates Degree required or the ability to obtain one in 2 years required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

-Licensing/Certification: Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License.

-Knowledge of childhood academic, social and physical development

-First aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of hire.

-Must be able to pass a state background check upon hire.

-Ability to maintain confidentiality; a breach of confidentiality is grounds for immediate dismissal.

-Communicate clearly and concisely, with courtesy and respect.

-Ability to establish positive relationships with and instruct school-aged youth.

-Strong Math, Science, English and Social Studies skills.

-Ability to organize and coordinate activities with the assistance of classroom teacher.

-Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and work-habits.

-Ability to take initiative and assist as needed.
