DescriptionSargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides cutting-edge engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for US Department of Energy (DOE) sites and national laboratories. Specifically, we support the DOE Environmental Management Directorate as well as the National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories and sites. What does this mean? You can be a part of multi-discipline design teams supporting projects cleaning up the environmental damage associated with the legacy nuclear weapons production complex and/or preserving our country’s nuclear deterrent. Sargent & Lundy’s personnel design facilities, systems, and equipment that treat, store, and dispose of nuclear waste as well as systems that safely handle and process nuclear material. Perform design of special-purpose, one-of-a-kind equipment including gloveboxes, precision furnaces, hot cells, custom pressure vessels, and the associated controls and auxiliary systems
Under the direction of the Mechanical Project Lead, develop drawings and/or 3D CAD models, while working on multi-disciplined design projects
Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of mechanical design issues
Utilize 2D and 3D CAD modeling software tools to generate design packages
Participate in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of an integrated design model
Coordinate and provide support to other designers and project team members to ensure a complete and timely design package
Independently plan and execute design deliverables, such as general arrangements, piping isometrics, piping composites, pipe support drawings, and equipment location drawings
There may be the opportunity to accompany and assist other designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities
Develop your career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced designers by way of S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice”
Provide guidance to others in the development of less-experienced designers and drafters
QualificationsMust be a U.S. Citizen; Dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify. Essential skills and experience:
A 2-year Associate’s (AA) degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience
Proficiency with design software tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar, to produce 2D and 3D drawings and models
Experience in the review of mechanical equipment, including outlines and interface points, and coordinating and developing the associated deliverables
Ability to interface and communicate with engineering and design teams of other disciplines
Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
Valued but not required skills and experience:
BIM modeling using Autodesk products (Revit) or equivalent
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
