ASSOs report directly to the Special Security Officer (SSO) and have responsibilities relative to assigned security disciplines.This ASSO position serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in the Physical Security (PHYSEC) and Operations Security (OPSEC) domains. In addition to the PHYSEC and OPSEC focus, as part of the Special Security Office team. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the overall daily efforts of the team, including providing broad security-related customer support to SCI-indoctrinated staff, escorting uncleared visitors within the facility, conducting cursory security inspections, and periodic after-hour security event response. Completion of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) Special Security Officers Course (SSOC) and the SCIF Course (formerly the ICD 705 Course), or equivalent, is required within one year of hiring if not previously completed within the past five years. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, a solid customer-service attitude, sound communication skills (e.g., report writing, verbal communications, problem-solving, and decision-making), and be able to adjust work priorities quickly based on changing circumstances or events. The Special Security Office is looking for an Alternate Special Security Officer (ASSO) to serve as a Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO). In addition to providing Personnel Security (PERSEC) and programmatic support for sponsors, the CPSO will assist the Special Security Office team in their responsibilities for safeguarding sensitive compartmented information (SCI) and SCI facilities (SCIFs). The CPSO will be accountable to the Special Security Officer (SSO) and have responsibilities relative to assigned security programs. This CPSO position serves as the SSO’s Personnel Security (PERSEC) and security administration subject matter expert (SME) for special programs. As part of the Special Security Office team, the candidate will be expected to contribute to the overall daily efforts of the team, including providing broad security-related customer support to SCI-indoctrinated staff, escorting uncleared visitors within the facility, cursory security inspections and periodic after-hour security event response. The candidate will also be expected to help develop and implement security policies, procedures, and qualification training programs for the National Security Mission Division. The ASSO will demonstrate leadership and oversight for the development, implementation and conduct of the assigned program elements (sub-topical areas), the project management and oversight of assigned SSO project funding (to include budget development and cost control), and provide direct support to line and project management. Assists the SSO to effectively manage applicable SSO security programs and will work closely with the federal oversight entity for the evaluation and implementation of security requirements in the conduct of PNNL research and operations.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

AA and 10 years of relevant experience -OR-
HS/GED and 12 years of relevant experience.
Qualifying experience supporting the areas of: technology protection, facility security, access control, information security, technical security, personnel security, compliance surveys and assessments, risk assessment, incident investigation and response, or patrol operations and alarm response may be counted. Experience must be through work with Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Homeland Security, intelligence community or military operational security, investigations, federal/state/local law enforcement or commercial/industrial security.

Possess the ability to understand, evaluate, assess, and prioritize regulations and their applicability to PNNL and the FIE topical areas assigned.
