We are leading with innovation, as highlighted by bringing the Game Pass subscription to PC, bringing Xbox to new devices with Cloud Gaming, and our recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard King creating exciting new possibilities for players.  The Xbox Experiences and Platforms team is home to the engineering work that makes this vision possible, building the developer tools and services that enable game creators to craft incredible experiences, the commerce systems that connect publishers with their audience and help gamers engage with their next favorite games, the platforms on which those games play at their best, and the experiences that turn every screen into an Xbox.  Our Experiences Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer II to drive innovation on in-market Xbox experiences and devices, as well as help build the future platform for these experiences across consoles, PCs, handhelds, mobile devices, smart TVs, and web browsers. In your role you will work alongside a diverse team of engineers, project managers, and designers to create technologies that empower team Xbox to delight gamers no matter where they play.    You will be collaborating on code bases that involve web and native code to create new platform features and ship new experiences directly to gamers. Working with other developers on the team, your feedback will help drive new requirements and best practices into the platform. You’ll also seek to identify and understand the challenges we face in building these scalable experiences and use that knowledge to continually improve the platform’s capabilities. We welcome gamers and non-gamers alike, and actively seek out new perspectives to make our products better for everyone. Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios.  

Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.  

Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.  

Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.  

Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.  

Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications:   

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field AND 2+ technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, C, Objective-C, Java, or JavaScript  

OR equivalent experience.  

Experience shipping cross-platform applications  

  

Preferred Qualifications:   

Understanding of modern app development against cloud service dependencies  

Experience shipping native applications using C# and XAML  

Experience shipping web applications using React and Typescript  

Technical knowledge and understanding of challenges related to the gaming space, including but not limited to responsive UX design across device form factors, navigational input including gamepad, touch, and mouse/keyboard.  

  

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
