We are part of Catholic Health Initiatives one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country.ResponsibilitiesJOB SUMMARYThis job is responsible for operating mammography imaging equipment to perform, under the direction of a Radiologist, specialized screening and diagnostic examinations of the breast to safely and accurately capture specific images key to the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease. Work is performed in accordance with professional standards under scope of licensure and under strict safety protocols and regulatory requirements. Work includes: 1) preparing and operating radiographic equipment to produce high quality images for Radiologist evaluation, 2) explaining procedures to patients and positioning them correctly and effectively; and 3) performing quality assurance checks on imaging equipment to ensure it is in good working order. Throughout the imaging process, mammography technologists use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.Work requires knowledge of the standards, protocols, tools/equipment and regulatory requirements relating to mammography examination, including related radiation safety measures and protection techniques/devices to comply with regulatory requirements and to ensure safety of patient and staff. Some designated positions may also require knowledge of stereotactic/needle localization procedures.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Prepares equipment for imaging tests in accordance with established standards, safeguards and protocols to ensure quality results; performs quality assurance checks to ensure all parameters are within appropriate limits and the diagnostic quality of the images produced.
Explains procedure(s) to patients in preparation for the examination to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation; ensures that all questions/concerns are addressed prior to beginning the exam; monitors and documents physiological conditions of the patient prior to, and during, the procedure.
Operates imaging equipment to perform mammography screening/diagnostic protocols based on physicians’ orders and in accordance with professional imaging standards/protocols and regulatory requirements.
Maintains records and documentation as required by department protocols and licensure requirements.
QualificationsEducation/Work Experience Requirements
Graduation from an accredited school of Radiological Technology, and two years of related work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities. Some designated positions may require successful completion of accredited coursework for stereotactic breast biopsy, or willingness to be trained on-the-job to perform this procedure.
A minimum of fifteen continuing education credit hours in a 36-month period specific to mammography is required.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position and that meets the qualifications of any required certification or licensure.
Licensure/Certification
American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) (M) (R)
Current State of Washington licensure as a Radiology Technologist – Certified.
Washington Society of Radiological Technologist (WSRT) recommended.
Current Healthcare Provider BLS Certification
