Job Title: Seed Plant Manager

Job Summary:

The Seed Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the seed processing facility, ensuring production efficiency, quality standards, and regulatory compliance are consistently met. This role manages plant staff, coordinates production schedules, maintains equipment, and ensures accurate documentation throughout all seed handling and processing activities. The Seed Plant Manager plays a key leadership role in driving continuous improvement and supporting the success of the farm’s overall seed production program.

Minimum Requirements:

Farm production and seed processing experience required.

Knowledge of operating and maintaining seed cleaning and processing equipment (e.g., seed cleaners, carters, indents, gravity tables, aspirators, airlifts, mixers, and scale house).

Supervisory experience in a production or plant environment preferred.

Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Strong knowledge of safety standards and quality control processes.

Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, as production demands require.

Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Valid Oregon Driver’s License (ODL); ability to obtain a farm endorsement.

Attributes:

Excellent leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

Dependable, punctual, and proactive in problem-solving.

Team-oriented with ability to delegate tasks, train employees, and monitor performance.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

Skilled in operating forklifts and other plant/farm equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

General Management:

Direct, supervise, and coordinate daily plant operations, including seed cleaning, conditioning, treating, and packaging.

Establish and enforce quality control measures to meet company standards and customer requirements.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including workplace safety and environmental regulations.

Develop and manage production schedules to meet deadlines and optimize workflow.

Provide leadership, training, and ongoing support to plant staff, fostering a safe and efficient work environment.

Plant Operations & Production:

Manage seed receiving, storage, conditioning, and distribution.

Oversee and monitor equipment performance; coordinate routine maintenance and schedule repairs as needed.

Supervise bagging, treating, and shipping operations to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Maintain precise records of inventory, processing steps, and production results.

Implement continuous improvement strategies for plant efficiency, safety, and cost management.

Collaborate with other departments and farm management to align plant operations with overall production goals.
