Ocean Peace Inc is looking for a Factory Tech to work onboard one of our Factory Trawler Vessels! Experience Preferred.

Job Description:

The Factory Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of all factory machinery and equipment onboard the Vessel. This role ensures that the processing equipment is maintained to a level of regulatory requirements. The Factory Technician plays a critical role in the contribution of the overall productivity and safety of the vessel's operations.

The Factory Technician directly reports to the Factory Manager and works closely with the Chief Engineer and Foreman.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance: Must be capable and able to repair and maintain factory equipment. Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on factory machinery, including conveyor belts, processing machines, and scales. Keep an accurate, on-going check list of equipment that requires food grade grease. Pictures will be taken of areas that have been greased, frequency will be reflected on the checklist. This checklist will be reviewed at a minimum weekly by the Factory Manager.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues promptly and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime.

Operational Support: Assist in the setup and calibration of factory equipment for optimal processing performance. Ensure all machinery operates within specified parameters.

Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials required for maintenance and repairs. Coordinate with the Purchasing Manager for timely replenishment.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance, when necessary.

Emergency Response: Act as a key responder in case of equipment failures or emergencies, ensuring swift and effective resolution to maintain operational continuity.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations. Capable of following specific written, oral and visual directions in the event of an emergency. Conduct safety checks and ensure all machinery is equipped with necessary safety features. This includes following company GMP/Personnel Hygiene policy.

Required Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a factory trawler environment. Must be self-motivated.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in mechanical maintenance. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of at sea factory trawl equipment. Welding skills required.

Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours, 7 days a week while at sea. Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up or down a gangplank, or by using a Jacob’s ladder. Must be able to enter a skiff from a dock or a boat unassisted.

Competency Required:

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly. Must be able to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Strong time-management skills.

Must be a self-starter, able to set priorities, accountable for results and demonstrate follow through.

Must be organized.

Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and be fair and professional when dealing with co-workers.
