The Registered Nurse – NICU cares for newborn babies who aredelivered pre-term or at-term newborns who experience complications at the timeof birth. The Registered Nurse – NICU provides intensive around-the-clock care,including both medical needs and basic daily care activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care of the neonatal patient and coordinates with healthcareteam members
Cares for infants transitioning to extrauterine life
Provides age and culturally appropriate care to patient
Provides nutritional assessment & specialized feedings
Changes dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVs
Provides arterial & intravenous therapy
Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients,such as incubators and ventilators
Assists NICU Physician during examination, treatment and procedures,which can include lifesaving measures
Participates in discharge planning
Assesses signs and symptoms indicating changes in patient’scondition, documents changes and informs physician/charge nurse
Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealth care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
Identifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient carerequirements
Performs interventions according to identified priorities,and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient/familyenvironment
Initiates and evaluates family education
Documents and revises the plan of care according toevaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursinginterventions
Participates in activities to facilitate good interpersonalcommunications with facility Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Current Registered Nurse license for the state in which thenurse practices
One year NICU experience required
NRP card per contract requirement
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
