Summary About the Position: Serve as the Principal Staff Advisor for the Brigade's Safety Program (a comprehensive 24-hour a day program), to include serving as the Brigade Commander's technical advisor/consultant for safety issues. The duties and responsibilities of this position require or authorize the individual to formulate, determine, or influence the policies and to formulate, develop, organize, execute, and assess the Brigade safety program. Responsibilities Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Manager for a Brigade. Ensure proper accident notification and investigation procedures are followed. Provide technical guidance and advice for environmental, radiation, live fire training, base operations, construction plan review. Provide technical guidance and ensures compliance with established safety criteria. Serve as the Brigade Commander’s technical expert to identify, analyze, and provide risk management control measures for life-threatening hazards. Provide technical guidance during the operations planning process to ensure the integration of safety risk management. Deploy with Area of Operation units and other operations as tasked by higher headquarters. Develop Area of Operations safety policies, procedures, plans, and regulations to ensure compliance. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience performing safety and occupational health program requirements to include tactical military operations such as live fire training, ammunition/explosives, and industrial operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11 or above. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance Inspection Mishap/Accident Investigation Public Safety and Security Risk Management Safety and Health Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
