Position DescriptionTacoma Power is establishing an eligible list for Hydro Grounds Maintenance Worker at our Nisqually (https://www.mytpu.org/tacomapower/parks-recreation/) Hydro Project located in Eatonville, WA. This eligible list will be used for one year. This Hydro Project generates clean, renewable electricity.Hydro Grounds Maintenance Workers perform a wide variety of grounds maintenance duties to maintain and care for hydroelectric plant grounds; operate, maintain and perform minor repairs to grounds maintenance equipment and machines. Responsibilities Include:

Perform a variety of grounds maintenance duties including mowing and sweeping lawns, trimming and pruning shrubs and trees and watering and fertilizing grounds; weed and sweep grounds and remove debris as required.

Operate a wide variety of light to heavy equipment including push and riding mowers, sweepers, power edgers, hedge trimmers, power sprayers, rototillers, chain saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools.

Operate vehicles and heavy equipment including pick-up trucks, tractors and trailers.

Service, maintain and perform minor repairs to grounds equipment to assure proper and efficient working condition; maintain adequate levels of fuel, water and oil; lubricate, adjust and replace parts as necessary.

Spray a wide variety of insecticides, herbicides and pesticides; determine appropriate applications; assure proper cleaning of equipment and disposal of pesticide containers.

Load and unload truck and transport equipment to various work sites, using a trailer as necessary to transport heavy equipment.

Communicate with supervisor as necessary to report grounds maintenance problems, major repair needs and supply needs.

Maintain records related to grounds maintenance activities as required.

Train and provide work direction to temporary employees as assigned.

QualificationsAn equivalent combination of two (2) years of education, training or experience which provides the background required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the classification in the care of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, lawns, including the care and maintenance of gardening tools, equipment and facilities. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Possession of a Public Pesticide Operator's License and valid Washington Combination Driver's License. Knowledge & Skills

Basic techniques of grounds maintenance.

Health and safety regulations governing chemicals and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance work.

Operation and maintenance of a variety of grounds maintenance equipment.

Basic record-keeping techniques.

Plant species and planting techniques.

Standard practices, materials, methods and tools utilized in propagating, raising and caring for plants, flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns.

Symptoms and methods of control of plant disease and insect pests.

Types of soil required in propagating and growing varied plants and types of fertilizer and methods of use.

SKILLS:

Operate a wide variety of light to heavy equipment including push and riding mowers, sweepers, power edgers, hedge trimmers, power sprayers, rototillers, chain saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools.

Operate vehicles and heavy equipment including pick-up trucks, tractors and trailers.

Calibrate and operate spray equipment safely.

Perform grounds maintenance construction work.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Apply and enforce safety rules and regulations.

Lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Maintain routine records.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Perform heavy manual labor.
