Mt. Baker Mining and Metals is seeking a Shop Lead to join our team. Join a family-owned progressive equipment manufacturing company located in Bellingham, specializing in industrial machinery for processing gold ore, rocks to gravel, precious metals recovery, scrap metal, and related industries.
The successful candidate is an experienced welder/fabricator in a manufacturing environment., with the skills to work with employees on the shop floor. This is a “hands on position” performing activities of the workers supervised, and accomplishing work in an efficient manner. The Shop Lead oversees shop operations, activities and product fabrication schedules in a positive, team orientated environment. They foster continuous improvement in production, safety, personnel relations, equipment, maintenance and efficiency.
This job is multifaceted, and the skill sets you need will include technical know-how, leadership skills and interpersonal intelligence. You need excellent communication skills and the ability to work with employees across all levels. Since fabrication is the main function of our shop, you also need expert level knowledge of welding methods, a thorough understanding of machining processes, equipment technology, shop procedures and how to read drawings, schematics, and sketches. Previous lead or supervisor experience is preferred, but not required,
Oversee 6-10 employees
Time management and organizational skills: plan organize and manage multiple projects
Self-motivated, high achiever
“Hands-on” experience with layout, fitting, welding
Expert level knowledge of welding methods
Read and interpret drawings, schematics and blue prints
Working knowledge of tools and equipment: overhead cranes, saws, ironworker, welders
Excellent communications skills
- 2+ years related experience
-Minimum: High School Diploma
- Preferred: Associates Degree or higher.
