Mt Baker Products, Inc. is now hiring a full-time Industrial Electrician / Maintenance Technician for its Bellingham plywood mill. This role will be responsible for supporting the Maintenance Department in keeping the physical plant functioning to meet production needs.
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
Job Type: Full-time; regular. Starting schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 6:30 am to 3:00 pm, with overtime required, including on holidays and weekends.
Starting Pay: $28.00 to $32.00 Hourly
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Understand the issues behind common electrical and mechanical problems and be able to outline and translate machine specifications and blueprint information to supervisors and other department members.
· Ensure machines are ready to function at full performance and diagnose any problems machines may run into over their lifespan.
· Understand system functions and have the ability to explain them to anyone who may work with the machine, or need information about the machine, such as a coworker, or manager.
· After obtaining authorization, troubleshoot repair and and perform maintenance duties on existing machines including press, spreader, glue, sander and saw lines.
· Responsible for making and managing logs and reports of repairs and maintenance of company machines and accurately and promptly communicating information to supervisors.
· Perform general maintenance duties such as inspecting equipment and structures for safety issues, fuel handling and fire prevention; escalate concerns to management and report equipment downtime immediately. Obtain prior authorization before making any repairs or adjustments.
· Work cooperatively within and across department teams.
· Promote and demonstrate safe work habits; wear assigned PPE, including safety glasses, earplugs, gloves, and dust mask.
· Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS NEEDED
· Electrical Certification required. Journeyman, or higher.
· Minimum of one year of recent maintenance and repair experience at a commercial building; manufacturing/wood products facility experience strongly preferred. Related training courses in facilities/plant maintenance duties are a plus.
· Ability to read and understand blueprints, instruction, parts and safety manuals, written directions, posted policies and bulletins; ability to perform basic math functions to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
· Ability to identify safety concerns on equipment/machinery and appropriately escalate matters to management; ability to use and promote the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
· Proficient in using power tools. Forklift experience is a plus.
Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team. Requires flexibility in accepting work assignments and a non-standard schedule, such as weekend and holiday hours, as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee will be working near loud machines and mechanical equipment in an environment that can vary in temperature, depending on the season. The position requires continuous walking, standing, and engaging in movement throughout the day, which may include bending, lifting, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling, raising arms above shoulders and head, climbing ladders, working in enclosed spaces and working outdoors. Lift up to 50 lbs. on an occasional-to-frequent basis. Personal Protective Equipment required.
