I purchased two used Uniden radios and two new TidRadio (TD-H3) two-way Radio with Bluetooth built-in.
Normally I am very tech-savy and when stumped I can find an online tutorial to follow.
Regarding these portable two-way HAM radios, all the Youtube videos I find are describing things I have no point-of-reference for and the jargon is over my head.
I need a basic lesson in operations from someone experienced in these two brands (primarily the TidRadio) which is comparable to the popular Baofeng radio. The "instructor" i need should also be familiar with the Odmaster iphone app used to program TidRadio’s and store information.

Ideally your tutelage should show me how these function as emergency two way radios and do's and don'ts of operations. Teach me about the different bands, and most importantly, show how to program each radio (two different brands) and it's understood i won't be able to tune in to some local frequencies that are encrypted systems (such as Law Enforcement + Fire/EMS dispatch).
If possible i'd like to check if these radios can listen to any local emergency channels. Understood if they can't:

If you can't tell, i'm trying to avoid reading a thick book on all the in's and out's of HAM radios. I am basically looking to get these radios up and running for possibilities of being out in the wilderness hiking without cell phone service.
In which case, i'd want lessons about how a repeater works with these radios and how to make use of it.
Therefore i am looking at this as a timesaver for me and some easy cash for someone else who does this as a hobby and would like to share their knowledge.
