Position summary: The Community Engagement Manager (CEM) is a key staff member in our nonprofit organization. The CEM is responsible for working closely with the Executive Director (ED), Board, and other staff to advance development efforts, promote community awareness of our services, and create opportunities for engaging with our organization. We are seeking a wonderful individual to join our team and serve our community by modeling the WDRC’s core values and embodying a warm, welcoming, and professional approach while interacting with volunteers, donors, partners, clients, staff, and the community at large. The successful candidate will both bring vision and leadership to a collaborative environment, and successfully implement strategically aligned operational plans.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
● Engage as a thought partner with the ED and staff to cultivate resources and relationships;
● Design and implement the Fund Development and Outreach Plans in coordination with ED and Board;
● Organize and participate actively in Board Fund Development Committee meetings;
● Coordinate Board involvement in community engagement activities; contribute to Board updates.
Fund Development
● Lead organizational fundraising efforts in collaboration with ED and Board
● Manage fundraising and engagement initiatives: annual gala, special events and creative giving strategies;
● Sustain and cultivate donor relations;
● Design and implement appeals; solicit, receive, and acknowledge contributions;
● Identify and engage new donors and sponsors;
● Maintain and grow Corporate relationships and sponsorships;
● Manage donor database, utilize its tools to achieve organizational goals;
Community Engagement Development
● Facilitate and manage outreach opportunities and participate in networking to expand visibility;
● Nurture relationships with local organizations, government agencies, and community supporters in collaboration with ED and staff;
● Identify and support specific opportunities to reach diverse, underserved communities;
● Oversee Community Engagement & Data Coordinator in agency-wide data collection and metrics, including coordinating with staff to gather, research and aggregate internal and external quantitative and qualitative data, stories, and statistics to demonstrate service efficacy and impact
● Co-lead department-specific outreach initiatives, in coordination with staff
● Lead promotional activities such as video production, media creation, and design and procurement of promotional materials
● Coordinate with staff to align communications and materials with CE goals and activities
Team Leadership
● Coordinate and manage the work of staff members, board members, and volunteers working on community engagement and fund development efforts;
● Contribute to effective teamwork among staff;
● Actively participate in staff meetings, agency events and activities;
● Collaborate with staff to achieve the organization's mission and contribute to shared staff responsibilities; support other initiatives and tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
1. BA or comparable experience and education in related field and minimum 3-5 years relevant experience;
2. Ability to inspire support, delegate, work effectively with and supervise staff and volunteers;
3. Belief in and understanding of our mission, and familiarity with mediation and conflict resolution;
4. Familiarity with Whatcom County businesses, organizations, and the community at large;
5. Demonstrable cultural humility and awareness, and capable of mindfully interacting with diverse people;
6. Demonstrated track record of fund development;
7. Demonstrated experience with event coordination, project management, and communications;
8. Comfort and ease with technology and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogs);
9. Flexibility, including ability to occasionally work early morning, evening, and weekend hours;
10. Exceptional organizational skills, and a high level of attention to detail;
11. Excellent verbal and written communicator, and an outstanding listener;
12. Strong sense of initiative, sense of humor and compassion; desire and ability to work collaboratively;
13. Excellent proficiency with Windows applications, experience with relational databases;
14. Proficiency with Canva, In-Design, or equivalent layout application;
15. Able to create mail merges and templates, customize spreadsheets, set up queries and reports;
16. Ability to multi-task, manage time, meet deadlines, troubleshoot and address emergent issues;
17. Ability to work comfortably with limited supervision;
18. Ability to lift and/or move 30 lbs;
