JOB DESCRIPTION

PROGRAM COORDINATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

Works with and under the supervision of the Center Manager to develop and implement educational, social & recreational activities of interest to seniors which will facilitate and encourage healthy active living for improving and maintaining mental, emotional, and physical wellness. Volunteer recruitment and coordination will be a primary area of responsibility.

HOURS:

Approximately 20-25 hours weekly. Flexible half days, Monday through Friday. Center is open 8:00-4:00pm. Occasional weekend or evening work may be required. Schedule can be structured around Center needs and availability.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

 Involvement with multiple activities occurring daily/weekly/monthly; including indoor and outdoor.

 Works with the Manager to create, organize, implement, and evaluate Center programs which reflect the interests of older persons and the community.

 Helps design, implement, and promote activities and special events to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills.

 Maintains system of contacts and resources for events including entertainers, local, regional, and national organizations, and other entities the center engages or collaborates alongside.

 Increase programs, and participation in all programs and promote the noon meals.

 Works with the Manager to provide training, recognition, and appreciation for all volunteers.

 Greets, welcomes, recognizes, and interacts with all people around the center and encourages participation in activities and meeting and getting to know others.

 Coordinates and works with volunteers and committee to decorate the center, changing approximately monthly, to reflect seasons and holidays.

 While at the Front Desk, assists with general office and customer service tasks as needed.

 Assist with various other center functions as needed.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Must have a current driver’s license, show tolerance and empathy for older people, and be flexible and responsible. Need to be enthusiastic, personable, outgoing, and caring in their interactions with older adults. Must dress neatly and appropriately. Some proficiency with Excel, Word, and Canva desired.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Some experience and/or training in working with the elderly is desirable and working with other staff and volunteers. Must submit to a background check and become qualified in Basic First Aid and CPR. Must also have or obtain a Whatcom County Health Department Food Handler Card.

SALARY:

Program Coordinator role starts at 20.00/hr and will go through a 90 Day probationary period.

After three (3) month probationary period wage will be reviewed.
