The Ferndale Downtown Association (FDA) is seeking to hire an Executive Director. Our nonprofit organization has been helping the community since 2007 and is an affiliate member of the national Main Street America program. We are dedicated to preserving and enhancing our historic downtown while creating a vibrant community with which to attract quality businesses and shoppers. We take great pride in our downtown and we’re looking for the same in an Executive Director.
This is a full-time, high-profile position within the community. This position requires creativity and passion along with professionalism and ambition. Candidates should have experience in event planning, grant writing, networking, and a desire to ensure the vitality of our downtown community in today’s quickly changing environment. Candidates must be sociable, entrepreneurial in spirit, ambitious, well-organized, self-motivated, and capable of functioning effectively in an independent situation.
The position includes, but is not limited to, these key areas of responsibility:
● Facilitate the organization’s long-term strategy to achieve its mission through design,
promotion, organization, and economic vitality focuses.
● Develop and execute the coordination of all program activities.
● Facilitate committee development, create fundraising activities, manage promotional projects, oversee rehabilitation and design projects, lead and delegate volunteer efforts.
● Maintain a cooperative working relationship with association members, representatives of businesses, neighbors, and the city.
● Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
● Represent the FDA with other local organizations and committees. This would include advocating to city, county, and state government entities.
Key Skills:
● Communication: This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills. Communicate clearly and concisely to the board, constituents, media, and the public. Be comfortable speaking in public and meeting new people.
● Fiscal Management: Ensure financial viability of the FDA with the planning and responsible execution of the annual budget alongside the board, operation within approved budget, and ensuring maximum resource utilization.
● Fund Development: With the board, expand revenue-generating activities to support existing and planned programs.
● Relationship Management: Establish and maintain a positive relationship with the board of directors. Engage in board development by ensuring ongoing recruitment and orientation of new board members with the help of the existing board.
● Technology: Competency with current computer programs with flexibility to learn and adapt to changing technologies. Experience with WordPress and basic photo editing knowledge (like Canva) is a plus.
Who We Are Looking For:
● Minimum of two years relevant work experience in for-profit or non-profit.
● Some relevant college level education. Equivalent business experience is good with
preferred experience in small business development, historic preservation, or public relations.
● You think outside of the box, embrace learning, and continuous improvement.
● Comfortable and confident with social media marketing campaigns.
● Detail oriented.
● Understanding and experience using cloud-based products and services.
● Go-getter, results driven, are responsive, and follow through on commitments.
● Organized and have excellent time management skills.
● You understand and enjoy small-town life and communities.
Compensation Details:
Position is Full-Time
Salary range: $50,000 to $65,000 DOE
