We are looking for a hard working person to join the animal care department at our domestic animal shelter.
JOB TITLE Animal Care Technician – Part Time – 26 hours per week
FUNCTIONS To provide all sheltered animals with humane care, treatment and attention. Provide initial intake and ongoing vaccinations medical treatment, behavioral assessment/observation of animals received into shelter. Provide professional and courteous adoption counseling and training information to the public, interacts with potential adopters to identify suitable matches between families and animals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Clean, disinfect, and maintain various animal quarters and accompanying areas in sanitary condition.
2. Vaccinate, feed, exercise and observe animals daily as to their health and well-being.
3. Provide special care when advised of animals requiring medication, treatment, and/or special needs.
4. Assist customer service and members of the public with lost pet searches, donation drop off, questions and other duties as needed
5. Properly identify all animals and maintain proper paperwork.
6. Receiving animal after hours and assisting other departments with incoming animals.
7. Incoming health examination, vaccinations, daily enrichment and assessment
8. Assist with animal behavior/temperament testing/evaluation
9. Assist with animal adoption selection/counseling
10. Assist volunteer teams with various tasks
11. Assist public in redemption/adoption of animals
12. Assist with humane euthanasia
13. Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent
2. Must be in good health, able to pass a physical examination, and lift 50 pounds.
3. Highly motivated toward the welfare and humane treatment of all animals.
4. Workable knowledge of proper care for animals or ability to learn.
5. Ability to work well and communicate with the public, volunteers, and fellow employees.
6. Must be able to work independently and in a diverse group environment.
7. Proven computer, written and verbal skills.
7. Have minimum 6 months professional working or volunteer experience with animals.
COMPENSATION:
$18.50 per hour. Benefits including vacation, sick, holiday pay after successful completion of introduction period.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must work irregular hours, early morning shifts, weekends and holidays. Be able to deal with unruly, vicious, and dangerous animals humanely. Be able to deal with a hostile public, a fast paced workload that at times can be stressful and physically demanding. Be able to deal with strenuous physical activity and the emotional drain of the job. Exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
