Our company uses veneers like cherry, walnut and oak to produce high end panels for the woodworking industry. We have an immediate opening for a Saw Operator for the day shift. This is an entry-level position where you'll receive on-the-job training. We promote from within, providing opportunities for cross training and employee development.
JOB SUMMARY:
Operates one or more single or multiple blade circular saws to cut wood and wood products to specified lengths by performing the following duties.
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 5:00 am to 1:30 pm. Overtime potential, including on Saturdays.
RATE OF PAY: $19.00/hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will operate a skinner saw or cut-off saw as main responsibility; will be trained on both.
Adjusts and secures ends and backstops on saw table or bolts saws to shaft and turns handwheels to space saws and stops, according to specified length of stock.
Starts saw and places material to be cut on conveyor belt, drums, or feed chain that feeds stock into saws, or positions workpiece against end stop and under saw, synchronizing action with automatically descending blade, or pushes material on table and cuts wood.
Pulls lever to swing saw through material, or pushes moveable table past saw, or depresses treadle to raise saw through slot in machine table, or tilts table for angle cut and presses pedal to move saw through workpiece to cut stock.
Replaces dull or damaged saw blades and lubricates machine.
Examines material prior to cutting to determine what cuts will remove defects and produce maximum footage.
Scans all tickets for material being cut.
Verifies dimensions of stock cut and accuracy of cuts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
No experience required; entry level position with on-the-job training. Prior saw machine experience is helpful.
Ability to perform basic math functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
Ability to read and understand machine operation directions, order tickets and safety rules written in English.
Ability to take supervisory direction and work cooperatively with co-workers in and across departments.
Ability to work independently and meet production requirements.
Ability to maintain an organized and clean work area.
Ability to identify safety concerns on equipment and machinery and to appropriately escalate issues to management.
Ability to work safely at all times and use assigned personal protective equipment (PPE).
This position may require overtime, including on Saturdays.
WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The Saw Operator is regularly exposed to work near loud machinery and fumes or airborne particles. The position works in cold to hot temperatures, varying by season, and the environment can be damp or dusty. The noise level in the work environment ranges from moderate to loud; PPE is required. This position requires walking, standing, and engaging in movement throughout the day, and occasionally to frequently lifting or sliding items weighing up to 100 lbs. Must have ability to to grasp, push, pull; and carry panels of wood.
