Mt Baker Products is a premier manufacturer of decorative plywood used for cabinetry, furniture and interiors throughout North America. Our company uses veneers, like cherry, walnut and oak, to produce high-end panels for the woodworking industry. We currently have immediate entry-level openings for a Sander/Veneer Processing Utility Helper to join our team on day or swing shift.
PAY RATE: $19.00/hour
SCHEDULE: Day Shift: Mon-Fri, 5:30 am to 2:00 pm; Swing Shift: Mon-Fri, 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm.
Overtime potential, including on Saturdays, is expected.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Sander/Veneer Processing Utility Helper will perform a variety of duties related to veneer processing, as needed for production flow, to include sanding lines, pairing of veneers, grading, and making repairs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Veneer Sanding Duties:
Using a handheld belt sander, will sand lines in veneer panels.
Slides and flips wide and long (50" x 99") thin veneer skins on a table to position for sanding and repair; makes necessary repairs.
Veneer Pair-Up Duties:
Inspects the face and back of skins of specified wood type/species, per the customer and ANSI specs, as pairing veneers.
Positions loaded rolling cars by pulling or pushing for forklift access for changeovers.
Sweeps work area to keep clear for rolling carts.
Confirms orders are complete per the work order specifications, and prints/attaches tickets to the finished pair order.
Other duties, as assigned. Cross training is essential to maintain productivity on this team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to learn and successfully distinguish wood imperfections, discoloration, and other defects, according to the ANSI and customer specifications; on-the-job training will be provided.
Ability to read and follow customer tickets and company rules, policies and safety guidelines in English.
Ability to slide and flip large (50" x 99") veneer skins on a cart on a regular basis; skins weigh less than 5 lbs.
Ability to stand and walk for duration of work shift (8+ hours).
Ability to work productively and cooperatively, as part of a team.
Ability to wear safety equipment (PPE) assigned and to follow all safety guidelines at all times.
Be willing to cross-train in related functions, as production flow requires.
Be available to work overtime, including on Saturdays.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee will be required to stand and walk for the duration of the work shift (8+ hours).
Requires the ability to push loaded rolling carts weighing up to 100 lbs. on a cement floor, with assistance, as needed.
Ability to slide and flip wide and long (50" x 99") thin veneers weighing up to five (5) lbs. on a cart.
Ability to distinguish different color variations and hues.
Ability to grip, hold and manipulate belt sander and veneers on a continuous basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving forklifts, exhaust fumes and airborne dust/wood particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to varying levels of cold and heat, depending on the season. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but the employee may be briefly exposed to higher volumes of noise while entering and exiting the work area. Personal Protective Equipment, including eye and ear protection, may be required, depending on work assignment.
