JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, or designee, performs daily cleaning and maintenance of school district buildings and worksites. Ability to work alone and as a team member with the flexibility to work in all areas of the building.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform daily cleaning of designated areas as outlined in the work schedule for each building. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
o Trash/recycling pickup and removal
o Vacuum
o Mop
o Sweep
o Dust
o Disinfect and sanitize
o Scrub
o Wash windows
o Strip, seal and wax floors
o Clear clogged drains and traps;
o Tighten door hinges and closers;
o Minor wall patching and touch-up painting;
o Shampoo carpets
o Changing: Light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and air filters
Prepare classrooms and/or other spaces as needed for activities and rentals.
Responsible for assuring building security.
Safely operate equipment, chemicals, and cleaning agents as required by the cleaning task.
Maintain and operate equipment to ensure optimum performance and report need for repairs to head custodian and custodial supervisor.
Remove snow and ice from walkways and steps as necessary.
Successfully complete employee safety orientation and maintain safety standards for self and the district.
Attend relevant training classes, workshops, and meetings as required.
Substitute for the head custodian when he/she is absent (applies to night custodians in buildings where there is no assistant head custodian).
Work with staff, students, parents, and the public in a professional and appropriate manner.
Maintain confidentiality.
Enter service requests to address any building needs or repairs.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the building principal, Custodial Supervisor, Director of Facilities and Sustainability or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Vocational or technical training in custodial trades preferred.
At least one (1) year experience in either a public or commercial custodial position preferred.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, administration, and the general public.
Ability to lift, shove, pull, push, and carry objects weighing at least fifty (50) pounds.
Valid Washington State driver’s license preferred.
Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in accessing, prioritizing, scheduling, and completing custodial work.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate and acceptable.
Ability to work alone and as a team member with the flexibility to work in all areas of the building.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbents typically experience daily:
Standing for prolonged periods. Crouching, bending and go up and down stairs.
Lifting and/or carrying objects at least 50 pounds.
Use of cleaning tools, machinery, and ladders.
Exposure to environments that contain heat, cold and to cleaning chemicals.
Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
