Whatcom Community College welcomes applications for an Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 3, Computer Information Systems (Class Code 255O) position in the College's Computer Information Systems (CIS) lab. This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants.

Under general direction, this position provides instructional and administrative support to the CIS lab and teaching program such as; assisting faculty with developing lab activities and material, maintaining and preparing machines for student use and imaging lab machines for classes. Additional duties will include grant project support and assistance with administrative functions in support of the CIS Program Coordinator.

This position reports to the Dean for Workforce Education.

Responsibilities

Typical duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Manage and maintain the CIS lab network including configuration, maintenance, installation of servers and other network equipment.

-Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues.

-Supervise personnel.

-Set up images for courses and teach lab portion of courses as designated.

-Inspect, test, adjust and do repair of lab machines, including routers and switches.

-Order equipment and supplies.

-Assist program coordinator with various administrative tasks.

-Maintain grant supported website.

-Gather and report on analytic data.

-Assemble information for grant reports and other grant related activities.

-Create or update documents necessary to grant activities.

-Requires punctual and regular attendance.

-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

-Associate's degree with major study in CIS/computer networking or similar.

-Two years of full-time experience as an Instructional Technician 2 in CIS or equivalent.

OR

-Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Bachelor's Degree.

-Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to coordinate with partners inside or outside the organization to share information, make decisions, arrange for services or other assistance, and/or implement solutions to problems or complaints. Ability to convey clear, timely, persuasive messages that positively influence the thoughts and actions of others.

-Working knowledge of computerized language lab technology.

-Ability to explain technical information regarding rules, rights, regulations, policies, procedures, programs, or services to answer questions, resolve problems, communicate decisions or actions, etc.

-Ability to assist students in a CIS lab setting.

-Employ expertise, credibility, and effective partnering to help faculty and other staff identify, evaluate, and resolve complex or sensitive issues, problems, and service needs.

-Ability to effectively coordinate events, activities, services, and schedules with necessary processes and available facilities or equipment to ensure smooth, efficient operation of work.

-Ability to constantly multi-task between projects and assisting others. Ability to work independently and accurately.

-Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office). Ability to collect, organize, and store documents and information, and devise or maintain effective systems for retrieval and distribution.

-Accept personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of his/her work.

-Actively contribute to a work environment that embraces diversity and uses diverse perspectives to enhance the attainment of organizational goals.

-Can be relied upon to achieve excellent results with little need for oversight.

-Ability to successfully test, monitor, and maintain individual computer systems for the purpose of supporting and enhancing educational functions.

-Ability to accurately assess the resources necessary to carry out planned actions. Perceives the impact and implication of decisions made regarding resources.

-Experience in a community college/higher education work environment.

-Develops innovative ideas that provide solutions to all types of workplace challenges and brings ideas to supervisor.

Salary:

-Range 47, full-time Classified salary starting at $4,093.00 per month with periodic increments to $5,370.00 per month.

-Position's shift is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5pm. The successful candidate will primarily work in an indoor computer networking lab environment.

Benefit Package:

-The position comes with a full benefit package, including health, dental, life, long-term disability insurance and a retirement plan.

-Accrues 8 hours per month of sick leave and 11.33 hours per month vacation leave with periodic vacation accrual increases based on longevity.
