Surgical Recovery ManagerJob DetailsJob LocationBellevue - Bellevue, WA Position TypeFull Time Salary Range$106,400.00 - $159,600.00 Salary Description and QualificationsThe Surgical Recovery Manager has direct accountability for the management of day-to-day surgical operations and oversees all activities related to the surgical recovery and safe preservation of organs from donors. This includes, but is not limited to, surgical assistant, operating room logistics and communication, maintaining surgical and preservation supplies, organ preservation, and upholding the mission, goals, and strategic plan of LifeCenter Northwest. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Management Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and monitors the implementation of initiatives that will improve surgical organ recovery.

Assists in the development and day-to-day management of departmental surgical budget.

Routinely engages in processes to improve management of costs and potentially reduce costs.

Manages performance review process and personal development plans for surgical coordinator.

Successfully manages groups including committees, workgroups, and staff teams.

Works in concert with Organ Utilization Director, Surgical Organ Recovery Specialist(s) (SORS), Organ Recovery Manager(s), Organ Utilization Program Manager, Organ Preservation Program Manager, and Quality Department to reduce risk and ensure quality processes are in place.

Clinical Responsibilities

Takes 24-hour call to be available for activity associated with organ recovery and perfusion. Available for consultation by phone outside of regular working hours as needed.

Functions independently as a Surgical First Assist to the Surgical Organ Recovery Specialist (SORS) or visiting surgeon as needed.

Demonstrates advanced knowledge of hepatobiliary and renal dissection for recovery and/or cannulation.

Demonstrates advanced knowledge of liver and thoracic perfusion/preservation devices.

Is able to perform advanced renal perfusion such as straight arterial cannulation or arterial conduits.

Transports and delivers organs, kidney pumps, and tissue typing materials to their appropriate destination.

Provides appropriate documentation during the donation process.

Is responsible for renal pulsatile perfusion duties.

Is able to appropriately manipulate kidneys, dissect patches, split kidneys, clean adipose from kidneys and collect biopsy. In addition to the ability to prepare imported kidneys, close biopsy sites and prepare a complicated patch for pumping.

Is able to function as an expert and resource to Surgical First Assists, Organ Utilization Coordinators, and Organ Recovery Coordinators in organ recovery, perfusion, and logistics.

Is responsible for effective communication and coordination with healthcare and surgical teams, transplant professionals and donation organizations.

Develops and ensures the consistent application and compliance with regulatory standards/requirements plus departmental policies and procedures.

Serves as a clinical resource for Hospital Development by providing educational in-services on the organ recovery process.

Collaborates with donor healthcare teams and organ recovery teams to facilitate successful transplant outcomes.

Leads strategic initiatives and workgroups in collaboration with the leadership team

Develops and leads training for the Surgical First Asist team and manages the onboarding and continuing education plan.

Is responsible for lab readiness in the Bellevue office.

Admin and Quality Responsibilities

Participates in timely resolution of non-conformance investigations and develops appropriate corrective and preventative actions. 

Submits appropriate documentation for all training events attended.

Completes and submits a reconciliation of business expenses charged on your corporate VISA card each month by the prescribed due date. Provides follow-up on any issues in a timely manner.

Supervision

This position directly supervises the Surgical First Assists.

Other Responsibilities

Performs other related duties as required by the needs of the company and the senior leadership team.

Participates in, and may lead, employee committees and events.

Complies with applicable laws, regulations, and LifeCenter policies and procedures.

Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and their uses.

An ability to accurately present the donation process in formal and informal educational opportunities.

Must be compassionate, conscientious, ethical, and possess effective interpersonal skills that allow him/her/them to have effective communication with health care professionals and donor families.

Physical Activities/Requirements

This position requires on-call responsibilities and travel is essential to this position; consequently, the employee must be prepared to travel by automobile and aircraft within and outside the LifeCenter service area.

This position requires ability to effectively operate phones, computers, smart phones, office equipment and surgical instrumentation.

The individual must have the ability to communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the phone.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Must have a clear understanding and practice of universal precautions is necessary.

Work is normally performed in an office or hospital setting as well as other business environments. Generally, working conditions have exposure to bio-hazardous materials.

ANTICIPATED WEEKLY TIME COMMITMENT This position requires on-call availability and may require evening and weekend work. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; and or minimum of 5-years' experience as Surgical First Assist, or equivalent experience at another Organ Procurement Organization

Two years minimum management experience preferred.

CPTC is required within one year of employment.

Minimum of 5 years current operating room experience.

Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile for work-related functions at expected times.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or applicable medical or religious exemption will be required as a condition of employment upon offer.
