Phlebotomist - Virginia Beach, VirginiaFull Time | Monday to Friday 8:00am - 5:00pmJob DescriptionThe Phlebotomist will work at a patient service center in Virginia Beach. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process to patients, and demonstrating the use of needles. They must fully understand physicians' orders, ensure the accuracy of requisition forms, package specimens for transport, and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Responsibilities

Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients.

Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.

Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.

Ensure test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct.

Package specimens for transport.

Store specimen samples according to required temperature and maintain integrity.

Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Wear appropriate attire including personal protective equipment.

Attend annual department trainings.

Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

Phlebotomy certification valid in the state of employment.

6 months or more of phlebotomy experience.

Experience in a hospital or practice setting.

Knowledge of standard phlebotomy procedures including the order of draw.

High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Customer service experience.

Medical terminology knowledge.

Ability to handle high volume and challenging blood draws.

Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a very high volume center. Appropriate attire, including personal protective equipment, is required. The facility is committed to high-quality patient care and offers opportunities for growth and upward mobility.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
