HVAC & Refrigeration Specialist (Experienced)

Overview:

We’re seeking an experienced HVAC & R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) Specialist to join our facilities team. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing HVAC & R and Building Automation Systems (BAS), including complex and large-scale systems. You’ll also lead specialty projects and support facility operations with a focus on safety, compliance, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain, troubleshoot, evaluate, and repair HVAC & R and BAS systems.

Perform and oversee preventive and routine maintenance on HVAC & R equipment.

Lead and inspect HVAC & R installations and repairs to ensure code and regulatory compliance.

Modify BAS programming to adjust equipment points, functions, or data collection for system analysis.

Inspect and maintain mechanical and electrical systems using tools, schematics, manuals, and diagnostic instruments.

Identify and secure appropriate materials, parts, and supplies for maintenance and repair.

Assist in optimizing utility efficiency through effective plant systems management.

Collaborate with facility personnel to ensure timely project completion.

Provide technical guidance and support to other staff and assist with training.

Document all maintenance activities, equipment manuals, and project records.

Stay updated on industry standards, technologies, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of trade/vocational school in HVAC & R, blueprint reading, mathematics, or physics preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of HVAC & R experience in a commercial or healthcare setting required.

Licensure/Certifications:

CFC Certification (appropriate level).

Valid Virginia Driver’s License preferred for hospital-based roles; required for property maintenance roles.

Other Requirements:

Strong knowledge of BAS programming and automated building controls.

Familiarity with codes and regulations for hospital and commercial facilities.

Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to use computerized maintenance systems and maintain accurate records.

Must be able to provide own basic tools and, if needed, transportation to other work sites.

Must be available during emergency weather events (classified as emergency personnel).
