The Event Manager is a member of the University Catering team and works directly under the supervision of the Director of Catering. The Catering Event Manager designs, coordinates, facilitates, and executes catered events at various locations for faculty, staff and guests of the University.WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:This position requires long periods of standing and walking, the ability to lift 50 lbs., and the ability to push and pull bulk carts in conditions that are often, hot, humid, or cold. Must be able to safely use and operate typical kitchen and transport tools and equipment. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, on occasion. Designated as essential personnel.QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, skills & ability: Basic knowledge of safe food handling practices.Knowledge of culinary skills and techniques and the ability to train and lead others.Ability to exercise basic management principles, including leading and training staff, and work cooperatively as a part of a team.Knowledge of food presentation and decoration techniques.Skilled in effective time management, problem solving, and public relations techniques.Skilled in reading, mathematics, and written and verbal communication.Ability to exercise flexibility, work independently without direct supervision, and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.Ability to provide a high level of customer service.Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards.Must possess a current Virginia driver's license with a driving record in good standing.Ability to manage up to 40 individuals at one time.Ability to use computers and learn new software.Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.Education & experience: 4-year college degree or equivalent restaurant/hotel food service experience preferred.2 years prior catering management experience or 4 years restaurant/hotel food service experience.Safe food handler certification preferred, or certification obtained within one year of hire.Work Hours:Full time - Exempt positionHours vary based on events, weekends as needed.Salary Range:Pay grade 6 ($47,154.00-$62,484.00)
