Get to Experience a collaborative environment where teamwork is celebrated with flexibility that enhances balance and an inclusive atmosphere that is welcoming to all!Get to know our Purpose and make it yours by bringing innovations to market that improve the world, share a commitment to sustainability that makes our planet better and give back to communities in which we work and live.The DuPont Spruance site in Richmond, VA, has an immediate opening for a Fire Safety and Emergency Response Team Leader who will be an integral part of the Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team and provide onsite Fire Protection technical support and Emergency Response coordination. This position will report to the Spruance Site EHS Leader.The DuPont Spruance site is a large, multi-business, complex manufacturing and R&D site that produces NOMEX®, KEVLAR®, and TYVEK®. There are many highly hazardous processes on the site, which are governed by OSHA, EPA, DEQ and NFPA regulations. The site has its own trained emergency responders in Fire Fighting, EMS. HAZMAT, and Confined Space Rescue. There is also two Emergency Operations Centers (EOC), a primary & back-up plus a mobile command trailer onsite. There is a fully equipped fire station, fire suppression apparatus and auxiliary vehicles across the site that are manned and maintained. Plus, over sixty (60) emergency staging area’s (ESA’s) and nine (9) contractor assembly areas on site.Your Key Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and lead improvements and modifications in processes relating to Fire Safety, Fire Protection, Fire Prevention and Emergency Response.

Manage the site fire safety inspector and resident fire safety contractors.

Host/Participate and assist in preparation of 1st and 2nd party fire safety audits.

Participate in 2nd party fire protection audits at other DuPont sites.

Provide leadership and guidance to help ensure compliance with applicable Site, Corporate, State and Federal Safety related regulations and requirements such as EPA RMP 40 CFR Part 63.

Interact with regulatory agencies as required.

Interface with all unit operations, site EHS functions, leadership, and the line organization in order to administer programs and procedures and ensure compliance.

Analyze systems to respond to operational problems and recommend solutions, develop programs, or effectively implement change to mitigate risk of future issues.

Evaluate hazards against available fire protection systems and minimum protection requirements, detecting and recommending corrective action in regard to any vulnerability.

Actively participate in both internal and external Fire Safety groups, committees, organizations, and professional societies such as the local LEPC, VAOEMS, Chesterfield fire & EMS, and ODEMSA.

Keep abreast of industry trends and new technology, leveraging that knowledge internally and externally to shape policy and communicate effectively with management around fire protection matters and issues.

Coordinate with the fire engineer on design of fire protection, detection, suppression, and mitigation systems on site.

Provide leadership of site emergency planning and response element team.

Maintain required fire protection documentation.

Act as primary liaison to build and maintain positive relationship with local fire officials.

Learn how to identify the root cause of system, equipment, and personnel failures via of "Root Cause Failure Analysis" (RCFA) systems and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

Establish and coordinate training of on-site emergency responders in order to maintain emergency responder certifications in NFPA 600 standard on facility fire brigades, NFPA 1081 job performance requirements for industrial fire brigade, EMT, HAZMAT, Confined Space Entry, and NIMS in order to maintain a high level of emergency response readiness for an industrial site with high hazard chemicals and processes.

Qualifications:

BS in Fire Safety, EHS or engineering discipline, or equivalent external work of 5-10 years in a fire safety field.

Significant work experience as a fire officer with hazmat, EMS, technical rescue (prefer >10 years).

Sound technical and regulatory based Fire safety knowledge, including knowledge of regulations, laws, and standards.

Understanding of passive and active fire systems (including hydraulics & fire dynamics).

Able to read and comprehend construction blueprints and specifications.

Significant work experience with highly hazardous chemicals and processes.

Ability to anticipate, plan, develop, implement, audit, and improve sustainable systems and processes.

Demonstrated problem-solving skills with strong ability to influence and demonstrate benefit to partners/customers regarding day-to-day and long-term challenges.

Willing and able to wear personal protective equipment in a chemical manufacturing environment (i.e., steeled toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator) and in a fire-fighting environment (i.e. Structural gear)

National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification minimum O0305 (Type 3 All Hazards Incident Management Team). If not current, obtain within one year.

Experience working cross-functionally with Operations, Technology, Maintenance, and Training organizations.
