System Operations Planning Engineering is a cross-functional team with a focus on planning engineering analysis, data science, and software development for defining and launching technology and data solutions that drive innovation and create industry-leading capabilities that advance the overall vision of Dominion Energy.The role includes responsibilities related to supporting the end-to-end management and architectural enhancements of data systems and tools used for analysis, visualization, and exploration of operational grid telemetry and other related data sources including Energy Managements Systems(EMS), Synchrophasors, and various relational database systems. Includes the development, maintenance, and utilization of a comprehensive set of production software tools to facilitate data engineering and process automation activities to work within the bounds of electrical planning studies. Includes the oversight of additional business processes that support data governance initiatives across Power Delivery. The role will also include architecting, developing, and maintaining engineering tools and automation for streamlining business processes within engineering teams. A strong focus on end-user/customer engagement and support within System Operations is critical to successful execution of the job function.Specific responsibilities of this role will include

Performing advanced power studies on outage sequences,

analysis of power system interactions including IBR penetration and customer control systems with traditional and non-traditional power system equipment,

Support of real time reliability operations engineering.

Automation and Application support for modeling systems.

This role is fully competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter. Performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Provides cost analysis as needed and develops recommendation based on calculations (e.g. cost for equipment upgrade) for management review. Distinguished from Engineer I and Engineer II by increased complexity in application of engineering skills required. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & ExperienceEngineer III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience (or at least 5 years of research engineering work experience on directly related projects for the electric utility industry. Work on such projects may be accomplished as part of an Electrical (or other engineering discipline identified by leadership) Engineering PhD program on its own (if 5+ years in duration) or in combination with additional research engineering work experience on directly related projects for the electric utility industry.)Relevant Experience includes, but not limited to advanced electrical modeling; Scripting for engineering applications; Advanced automation process experience and/or process innovation; Electrical utility grid engineering; System protection; Or similar combination of engineering experience(Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A master’s degree can count as one year experience)

Full knowledge of electrical engineering theories and principles

Knowledge of system operations philosophies and applications is a plus.

Experience in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines

Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)

Strong personal computer skills.

Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices

Experience with various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Excel, etc.)

Knowledge and proficiency in Python is a requirement

Knowledge and proficiency in C#/.NET, and SQL or comparable technologies is a plus.

Experience with GE EMS, PSSE, and/or TARA software is preferred, not required

Capable of moving easily between programming languages and technology paradigms

Experience developing large scale software systems and tools is a plus

Experience with Agile/Lean methodologies for project management

Understanding of contemporary relational and time-series database technologies. Preferred experience with time-series sensor data, particularly grid telemetry such as SCADA and synchrophasor data

Equally effective working independently or in team environment.

Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks

Strong planning, organizational and project management skills

Strong abstract thinking and problem-solving capabilities

Comfortable communicating with engineers, customers, and executives, alike

Excels at self-education and quickly adopting new skills and knowledge

Education RequirementsMinimum Bachelor's in engineering required.Preferred Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.Upcoming engineering PhD graduates with a projected graduation date of no later than December 31, 2024 who also meet the engineering criteria will be considered. Please note we are asking for conferred graduation date, not PhD defense completionREQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
