Description We are in search of a meticulous Staff Accountant to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is pivotal in maintaining our financial records, including purchases, sales, receipts and payments. The individual will also be tasked with reviewing general ledger accounts, preparing and adjusting journal entries, performing account analysis and reconciliation, maintaining the general ledger chart of accounts, and assisting with initial internal control evaluations.Responsibilities: Review and reconcile general ledger accounts Prepare and adjust journal entries as necessary Perform account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts Assist with initial internal control evaluations Post monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals Process customer credit applications accurately and efficiently as part of credit management Maintain accurate customer credit records and resolve customer credit inquiries Monitor customer credit accounts and take appropriate action to collect delinquent payments Apply understanding of Accounting Principles to all tasks Adhere to all industry regulations and standards in performance of all duties. Requirements Demonstrated understanding and application of Accounting Principles Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field Proven experience in a Staff Accountant role or similar Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively Solid understanding of financial and accounting procedures Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred Willingness to continuously improve and learn new accounting practices and regulations.
