Fuel Transfer Operator/ P.I.C (Norfolk, VA)Full Time DirectNorfolk, Norfolk, VA, USApplyPerson In Charge (Fuel Transfer)Primary Purpose: Under general supervision, performs a range of task required for fuel loading and off-loading from ship and barges to fixed terminal facility, in accordance with established company and federal policies and procedures.Essential Functions:

Able to manage a small crew with supervisor or manager oversight

Follow applicable safety rules, regulations, guidelines, policies, and site-specific safety plans when performing cleanup activities and donning protective gear

Load and unload equipment from vehicles, trailers, and watercraft

Operate hand tools to include, but not limited to, wrenches, winches, electric and pneumatic impact guns, and radios.

Perform physical labor associated with cleanup activities, hose connections and disconnections, and working around stationary piping

Ensure that all equipment is maintained, repaired and in maximum operating condition

Willing to work around a moving schedule

Will communicate via verbal, written, and technology applications

Will work nights and weekends

Complete required paperwork, forms and records as required

Performs other duties as assigned or required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of barge operations a plus

Knowledge of fuel transfer a plus

Knowledge of Person in Charge (PIC) fuel transfer 33 CFR regulations a plus

Must be able to interpret and follow written and oral instructions and assignments

Good communication skills with the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels

Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of operations and ability to safely operate assigned equipment

Demonstrates appropriate work site leadership characteristics, experience.

Demonstrates safety leadership by example

Can perform small, non-complex projects unsupervised

Must be able to work on a dock, over water.

High school diploma or GED preferred

Physical Demands:Must be able to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment and annual physical examination as required under HEPACO’s Medical Surveillance Program. Regularly requires intermittent sitting, standing, walking, running, climbing, squatting, and kneeling. Must be able to perform moderate physical tasks such as open/close valves, turn wrenches on 1” bolts/nuts, handle 8-10” hose.Work Environment:In addition to normal business hours, work schedules may include after hours and weekends as needed. Frequent work outside and in inclement weather conditions is required, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by established Company Safety standards, including the occasional use of a respirator. Must be willing and able to enter into and work in confined and dark spaces, as well as in small boats, and at heights in excess of 18 feet for prolonged periods of time.
