DescriptionAmazon Web Services is seeking an electrical engineer to be part of a global engineering team responsible for ownership and continuous improvement related to electrical infrastructure products within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. This position can be based out of Herndon VA, Austin, TX, Columbus, OH, or Seattle, WA and is expected to work from the office a minimum of 3 days per week.The Product Sustaining Team (PST) drives product and process improvements for AWS infrastructure products that are in the sustaining phase of the product lifecycle. PST goals are high product reliability and availability, agility, and reduced costs for our customers. PST requests feedback from product customers to understand areas for improvement and then prioritize new feature requests, documentation updates, and product and process improvements to maintain customer trust. PST is data driven, monitoring equipment maintenance and failure data, identifying failure trends, and troubleshooting to determine root causes of failures. The product sustaining team provides technical management for sustaining products.We are looking for engineers with hands on electrical infrastructure design and product development experience. If you can design electrical systems, have an understanding of the critical equipment needs for a data center, and understand the constructability of varying designs you may be a good fit. You should be capable of understanding equipment specifications and evaluating the merit of design changes.As a Global Amazon Product Sustaining Engineer, you will provide electrical infrastructure product life-cycle support to AWS data centers. You will collaborate with the product development team to gain deep understanding of all facets of each product as they are being developed and tested, and then support the product through its operational life. You will be a global ‘go-to’ engineering resource for electrical AWS products deployed in data centers.Amazon has a global presence. Travel will be necessary, will be intermittent and should be expected to reach up to 50%. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel may be necessary. Your contribution could consist of leading international projects and could require developing engineering information packages.Key job responsibilitiesResponsibilities of the Electrical Engineer: Possess strong engineering judgement and are able to provide recommendations despite uncertainty Collaborate with other disciplines such as mechanical engineering, reliability, operations, and compliance Are detail and data oriented Have experience engineering data center projects and/or products Review, update, and approve equipment submittals. Work with global electrical equipment suppliers and manufacturers Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g. operations, design) Work on concurrent projects, in multiple geographic zones Understand and explain complex systems in clear and concise language. Support Operations including failure mode and root cause analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support, and operating procedure review. Project experience with low voltage (LV) distribution systems with focus on protection relay, circuit breaker, switchgear and transformer systems.Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated leadership skills managing teams. Demonstrated ability to work cross functionally to improve products and/or processes. Knowledge of function and deployment of electrical infrastructure products in data center environment. Knowledge and able to interpret electric code NEC, NFPA, UL891, UL508, UL1066, UL1558, ANSI C37. Experience with protection and control schematics and manufacturing wiring drawings. Experience in Engineering design, manufacturing, Quality control or field issue resolution of electrical data center products. Knowledge of typical data center designs/architectures, and be following industry design trends. Demonstrated ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review. Possess leadership and problem-solving skills, be a motivated, highly dependable individual. The base pay for this position ranges from $93,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market.
