Animal Sanctuary Caretaker/Administrator (Culpeper, VA)

Animal Allies, a Northern Virginia 501(c)3 non-profit, seeks qualified Animal Sanctuary Caretaker and Administrator

Compensation: Free residence (4 bedroom/2 bath home, monthly rental value approximately $1,600) plus possible compensation based on projects Animal Allies desires to achieve that would enhance the grounds, provide enrichment for the cats, develop a volunteer base and other projects based on the candidate's skills.

Caretaker would be responsible for paying electricity for the house. House is all electric, including well pump. (well and septic system will be maintained in working order by Animal Allies.) However, after 6 months, should the caretaker(s) perform work beyond the required duties, resulting in significant accomplishments related to the enhancement of the facilities, resourcefulness of the sanctuary, and the care for the animals, payment of the utilities by Animal Allies will be considered.

Employment type: Caretaker would be considered self-employed contractor. IRS Form 1099 will be issued by Animal Allies. Caretaker is responsible for paying quarterly federal and state income tax. No Health Insurance is available.

Sanctuary Caretaker Position Availability

As of January 2023 animal organization in the greater Northern Virginia area (Culpeper) seeks a person/couple experienced in the care and handling of cats including feral cats. (Animal Allies has feral cats that must be observed, assessed and retrieved if in need of veterinary care)

Person/couple must have a love for animals and a desire to make a difference. A genuine commitment to the animals should demonstrated by previous work/volunteer history.

Person must have computer/IT skills to communicate effectively, and to be responsive to the Board and others with whom responsiveness is required. (Animal Allies designees must be informed of the status of the sanctuary and sanctuary animals on a weekly basis.)

Person must have organizational skills necessary to develop and coordinate volunteer efforts for the care of the animals or repair/improvement/enhancement of facilities.

Person/couple must not have engaged in hunting or any lethal program for wildlife management and have an appreciation for wildlife (property serves as a wildlife sanctuary).

Person/couple need to cooperate in wildlife programs that may be available.

In exchange for the free rent on the property, Sanctuary Caretaker will provide 25 hours/week performing the following services to the satisfaction of Animal Allies:

1. Maintain the facilities in clean and sanitary condition (housing, runs and storage shed) for 20 - 40 cats. Currently there are only12 cats. This can be done by resident caretakers or through recruitment of volunteers (recruitment of volunteers for this purpose is not considered a separate special project).

2. Daily feed and provide fresh water. Dry food should be stored in plastic containers. Portions served will be appropriate daily amount per cat

3. Scoop litter boxes once or twice a day depending on need

4. Make vet appointments and transport cats for vet visits, emergencies (mileage reimbursement paid based on federal allowance)

5. Clean and organize to better utilize available spaces (laundry room, cat rooms, storage areas, exterior metal shed)

6. Prepare a weekly update on the status of the current feline residents and a monthly update on the status of the sanctuary

7. Establish a facebook page and quarterly update for a newsletter
