Seeking personal care attendant- Part time
Location Stafford, VA
Looking for a kind, caring personal care attendant for our 34 year old adult son who has severe autism and intellectual disability. Care would be in our home.
Our son does have a past history of biting others (severe and significant biting) and scratching. Would prefer someone who has had behavioral training and is familiar with this type of behavior. There is a risk attendant could be bitten or scratched.
He is not completely potty trained and has incontinence. Attendant would need to wipe him, change diapers (both urine and bowel movement), and assist with toileting and redressing him. Our son has an unusual toileting situation: When he sits on the toilet- he urinates in a bucket (in order to prevent urine from going on the floor) Attendant must ensure our son has the bucket in front of him to catch the urine. Attendant would need to dump bucket and rinse out bucket.
He is a diabetic. Prefer someone who is able to do glucose testing.
Will need to be able to measure liquid medicine in a syringe and give by mouth. Also be able to crush pills, mix with liquid, and administer syringe by mouth.
Other duties include:
Personal grooming and Hygiene (assist with washing hands, shaving with electric razor, brushing hair, bathing, brushing teeth, etc.)
Changing his bedding (sheets, mattress cover, blankets,)
Vacuuming and dusting his room
Laundry -washing and drying his clothes, sheets, and folding and putting away.
Be willing to do simple games, tasks, and puzzles with him at his table.
Accompany us on outings (shopping) to provide additional supervision.
Preparing a simple lunch /snack for him or possibly driving him through the chick fil a drive thru in our van. He enjoys taking rides in the van.
Prefer someone who can drive and has a good driving record.
Pay is $17.62 per hour. Pay is not negotiable because it is through a Virginia Medicaid waiver program. Hours are somewhat flexible. Start part time but could become full time.
Must be at least 18 years old.
A TB test may be required before employment.
MUST be able to pass a criminal background check. Typically this takes about 30 days.
MUST be able to legally work in the U.S. (There is a homeland security form that requires 2 IDs.)
Job does not have workers’ comp or medical insurance.
