High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

ExperienceTwelve (12) months following the achievement of a particular grade level (i.e. Grades D, C, B, A and AA), an incumbent may be advanced to the next grade level provided he/she has taken and passed any required written or practical tests, acquired any required certifications and has met acceptable fitness for duty, work record and job performance requirements.

Level D

Must have two (2) years of experience as an Electrical Mechanic or related role

Level C

Must have three (3) years of experience as an Electrical Mechanic or related role

Level B

Must have four (4) years of experience as an Electrical Mechanic or related role

Level A

Must have five (5) years of experience as an Electrical Mechanic or related role

Level AA

Must have six (6) years of experience as an Electrical Mechanic or related role

Certification/Licensure

Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's permit

Roadway Worker Protection Certification, Level IV, within one year of hire and maintained for the duration of time in the job

Preferred

Vocational or technical training course in basic electronics and electro-mechanics

Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.SUMMARYThe Mechanic Electrical Power High Voltage is accountable for applying electrical principles and understanding the inherent dangers and risks associated with the work and performs routine to advanced electrical maintenance, testing, inspection, and repair on the high voltage electrical system throughout WMATA. The incumbent provides support in a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week schedule. The work environment includes the Metrorail system, which may include hazardous areas such as waysides, tunnels and/or equipment rooms while rail service is underway. The Mechanic Electrical PWRHV functions in a team when assigned escorts coworkers, contractors and/or Federal personnel.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs routine to advanced level scheduled maintenance, inspection, installation, repair, modification, and testing of electrical power distribution systems, transformers, power conversion equipment, high voltage switch gear, and direct current (DC) switch gear in accordance with preventive maintenance instructions, wiring diagrams, schematics, manufacturers' instructions and applicable electrical codes to ensure the efficient and safe operation of electrical equipment and cable plant associated with power substations and power distribution systems.

Follows prescribed procedures, performs routine diagnostic disassembly, repair and re-assembly of electronic, electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical components and equipment in a shop and/or field environment.

Removes, replaces, inspects and tests electronic components and/or circuits on assigned equipment as directed, following prescribed protocols for maintenance.

In cases of operational emergency, including weather-related, provides standby support of the rail system with a team to ensure rail service is minimally impacted by the event and/or is restored as quickly as possible.

Assists and/or responds to equipment breakdowns to determine problem(s), and repairs/restores equipment within capability of skill to restore equipment to functional capacity and minimize impacts to revenue service.

Attends on-the-job and/or formal training classes as directed, to ensure understanding of WMATA policies, standards, and rules so that equipment is inspected and maintained to the highest standards.

Completes routine reports and records as required to accurately document incidents and maintenance activities.

Operates Authority vehicles and/or equipment to safely move equipment and personnel to and from job locations.
