ECS is seeking a
Mid-Level Systems Engineer with Linux to work in our Fairfax, VA office. Job Description: ECS is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mid-Level Systems Engineer with Linux experience to support a Department of Defense (DoD) Program. This position is responsible for collaboratively working as a member of a team responsible for designing, developing, installing, documenting, managing, and maintaining the physical and virtual infrastructure of multiple network enclaves to support the DoD community. This position works alongside a dynamic operations team that includes network, systems, and security engineers; development teams; and technical leadership. This position works in a demanding, high-energy environment that requires innovative ideas to solve network, hardware, and software challenges. Responsibilities:- Support existing windows-based COTS applications and a heavy Linux presence environment
- Manage all systems administration duties, including troubleshooting / resolving issues at the operating system or server level. Support activities include (but are not limited to):
- Operating system installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching
- Managing Microsoft AD, DNS in various env
- Managing Virtualization platform, backup solution and storage solution
- STIG installation and verification
- Performance monitoring and analysis
- OS/Application-level upgrades and patching
- Database Server patching, Database Index maintenance and backups
- Recommendation and implementation of new and improved processes and procedures for system administration and maintenance
- Deployment and administration of production, test, and development environments
- Participate in weekly maintenance work
- Documentation of procedures and guidelines
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance
- Bachelor's Degree; Information Technology, Computer Science, or Mathematics preferred (or 5+ requisite years of experience
- Current Information Assurance Technology (IAT) Level II certification(s) required to work on government IT systems, to include any of the following: Security+, CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC or higher-level certification (or the ability to acquire within 30 days of onboard)
- 5+ years administering and troubleshooting in General Windows and Linux environments, to include Linux servers, database servers, application servers, and web servers in Windows and Linux environments
- Extensive experience working with CentOS 7/8, Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.X or 7.X, with a strong command-line interface (CLI) skillset
- Experience with Windows servers OS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Exchange, Relay
- Experience securing Linux systems, including conducting regular patches and updating/configuring systems
- Experience with configuration management (Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Salt)
- Experience with backup and restore platform and solutions
- Firm understanding of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) concepts
- Knowledge of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and configuration know-how
- Knowledge of general automation practices
- 5+ years managing the deployment, maintenance, and operations of web-based systems in Windows and Linux environments
- Demonstrated ability to apply an understanding of systems administration and operations to proactively identify and remediate day-to-day technical and operational challenges
- Working experience with virtualization (VMWare ESXi, vSphere, VCenter, KVM, Xen)
- Experience troubleshooting connectivity issues across all layers of the TCP/IP stack
- Ability to write thorough system engineering documentation, to include, but not limited to:
- CONOPS
- Implementation Plans
- System Configuration Guides
- Requirements Traceability Matrix
- Standard Operating Procedures
- Test and Validation Plans
- Backout Plans
- Dataflow Diagrams
- System Design Diagrams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced problem-solving skills
- A team player with proven ability to positively interact with peers and executive management
- Ability to work in fast paced multi-tenants' environments with multi-tasking ability
- Active DoD Secret Clearance
- Current IAT Level II certification
- Team leadership experience
- Experience with maintaining a secure, standard OS build process
- Experience designing and implementing a centralized Linux management solution
- Experience troubleshooting messaging queuing technologies, especially RabbitMQ
- Experience working as a Cybersecurity professional
- Experience with CI/CD environments and an automation-first mentality
- Experience supporting routing troubleshooting and analysis, as a helpdesk engineer for web-based Windows applications
- Solid understanding of Systems Architecture and component integration concepts
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LCFS)
- Working Cloud knowledge (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Hands-on experience and/or pertinent knowledge of Jira and Confluence
