ongoing trainings/educationPosition SummaryThe Foster Care Teacher I provides children with a positive and appropriate educational environment. The Foster Care Teacher I completes the educational assessments and plan for each child, and provides in-class instruction to a wide age-range of children who are in the program for a short time. The Foster Care Teacher I regularly communicates with the cross-functional team and strives to meet continuous quality improvement measures.RESPONSIBILITIES

The Foster Care Teacher provides a positive and appropriate educational environment for the minors that is consistent with National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and

philosophies.

Complete, appropriately document, and upload into the assigned portal(s) the required educational assessments and plan for each child.

Provide hands-on, in-class or virtual instruction to the children in the assigned location following the education program designed to meet the needs of a wide age-range and constantly changing group of students.

Follow the education program and weekly lesson plans, designed to meet the needs of a wide age-range and constantly changing group of children. The program includes activities and class set-ups including communication skills, English language training, and education services including basic academic areas such as Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, and Writing and provide for physical education, recreation and leisure time to meet the individual needs of children.

Make sure that each child has access to social work staff and counseling sessions during the learning day.

Regularly communicate educational and risk issues with the cross-functional team.

Strive to meet continuous quality improvement measures.

Provide support for daily morning arrivals, afternoon dismissals, and intake tasks as needed.

Perform other duties as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree required; Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education preferred.

Two (2) years’ experience in teaching capacity. Experience in classroom management, student engagement strategies, and classroom intervention strategies for students who have experienced trauma preferred.

Teaching English as a Second Language certification or Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages certification.

Fluency in both English and Spanish required; all agency documentation is required in English, while most classroom instruction is in Spanish.

Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury liability.

Able to pass a criminal background check.

Proficient use of modern classroom technologies including desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

OTHER SKILLS

Ability to work independently as well as part of an extended cross-functional team.

A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours with a possibility of being on call on nights/weekends, in the service of foster caregivers, families of origin, and persons served.
