Thank you for clicking on the post and welcome! We are thinkmakebuild, a custom builder that prides itself on an unwavering commitment to quality and client satisfaction. Our work comes to us through a network of architects and owners who have come to admire what we do and how we do it. Projects encompass both traditional and modern styles and include renovations and ground-up structures. We are in search of qualified individuals who are passionate about building.

Here are some thoughts we have on the position:

- You should have 5+ years of residential construction experience in a supervisory position.

- We do not discriminate based on age. We know plenty of folks in their thirties who know more than those in their sixties. We also know individuals in their fifties who can outwork those in their twenties.

- You should be prepared to get your hands dirty if the project requires it. We wouldn’t ask you to frame an entire house by yourself, but being able to perform basic carpentry tasks associated with residential construction is part of the job.

- We would like someone who lives and breathes custom residential construction. The houses we build are exacting and contain details and products unlike those most have seen. We greatly value someone who can learn quickly and has a tool pouch full of common sense. You will be expected to speak intelligently about methods of construction, forecast possible flaws, and offer creative solutions.

- If you subscribe to periodicals like This Old House, Journal of Light Construction, Fine Homebuilding, or Fine Woodworking, be sure to mention it. These are typically good omens that you are a fit for our culture.

- You should possess knowledge about the basic building trades. You will be supervising subcontractors, and knowing enough to help trades work through issues on the job site is key to maintaining a project’s momentum.

- You should be able to take constructive criticism. If the reveals aren't right, or the mitre isn't tight, or it's not plumb, or it's not per plan, or it just doesn't look good, we'll do it over, regardless of how much work it is. Sometimes we may have done everything right, it just didn't turn out the way the architect envisioned, so we do it again, and with a smile. There is nothing our clients or architects could ask us to do that would be considered troublesome. And yes, we’ll get paid for it (usually:-).

- Never be afraid to ask a question before doing something. We love questions, not if it's the same question seven times in a row, but in general, we would rather have you ask than just wing it. Every detail on our projects has a thought process behind it, and we can never assume we know what someone else was thinking.

- An ability to keep the job site spotless is important to us, and an attention to detail that borders on fanatical is super helpful.

- We love glue, pocket hole jigs, biscuits, and clamps. We want someone who appreciates things that help improve efficiency and the ability to create objects of beauty.

- You should display a willingness to embrace technology. Checking email on the company-provided MacBook as well as occasional interaction with our Project Management software is expected. You will be working on a team with a project manager who will coach you on these protocols, but you should possess the basic skills of business communication in both written and verbal form.

- You should possess the ability to organize incoming information about the job and coordinate the invoices and expenses within the TMB system. Your project manager will train you on these protocols.

- Ability to keep the job on schedule and on budget by aggressively pursuing a set schedule is your number one task. Coordinating critical completion dates with your team and subcontractors is critical. The ability to communicate definitively to coordinate subcontracted parties is essential.

- The ability to read construction drawings and specifications is paramount. Your ability to extract information about the design and clarify issues with the project manager will be required on your first day. You may also be required to communicate with architects, designers, or engineers to get the information required to build the detail accurately the first time.

- Patience is required, and working cooperatively has become one of our chief assets. We never consider the requests of our architects and clients as a burden.

- You should enjoy/love what you do for a living. This company is made up of individuals who are passionate about building and have fun doing it. You should too.

- Overtime and Saturdays are permitted and expected if the project demands it. Using the geographical location of your residence as an excuse for not being able to work late or come in for two hours on a Saturday to check on a project is frowned upon.

- A clean and professional appearance is expected, and smoking is discouraged.

Please respond with a resume and any additional information that you feel would be helpful in letting us know who you are.

Good luck!
