Help sell locally sourced food outside at the farmers' market on the weekend. We need workers at our market booth at the IX Park on Saturday mornings in Charlottesville. Need both cooks and 'front booth' sales people. Prefer applicants have a general comfort level with both roles.
We are a heritage hog farm in western Goochland County who also vends at farm markets hot, made on-site, breakfast sandwiches that feature the pork we raise [www.HogHavenFarm.com]. This a part-time weekend opportunity at the IX Park in C'Ville, $12 to start plus tips and commissions (average take home upwards of $25/hr on a busy day). Worker discount also offered and 1 free sandwich per shift (there is a 3 shift initial training period, base only).
Added preference given to applicant able and willing to work some extra hours on the farm doing general labor and/or food prep work. Help with the commute provided if over 45min.
Also in need of someone to come out to the farm before the market and help with carrying in the supplies (extra comp for this).
Ability to lift up to 50lbs and reliable transportation required. Market shifts start as early as 7am and are rain or shine! So can't be afraid to get up early on the weekend or to work outside on days when the weather is not so great.
Please note that most days this is a very bustling, fast paced sales and restaurant/kitchen-like environment. We are interested only in people who enjoy this type of activity and understand how to work with the sense of urgency required when things get busy.
Prefer applicants looking for a longer term part-time arrangement. Will consider students that may not be present year around, but that do expect to return during breaks and holidays. IX Market is year around.
Please further note that this is not an ideal position for someone who is unemployed, as it is only part-time. Do not apply if you have no other work at the moment, unless you can provide us with a very compelling reason for doing so. The position requires a considerable amount of training.
