Full-time Farmer Assistant Apprenticeship May-October
Looking for someone with some farm experience
This position will allow candidates to take a deep dive into farming on a small goat dairy, learn skills needed for herd management, and take an active role in organic gardening.
You will be asked to cover 5-6 shifts a week that will average to approx. 8 hrs a shift. Shifts will generally start mid-morning.
Duties will include:
learning how to milk our herd of 80 does
feeding goats, pigs, cows, chickens, and livestock guardian dogs
organic gardening
herd management (ex. hoof trimming, vaccinations)
field management (ex. mending fences, building structures)
We are looking for candidates with farming experience for this position. Reliability, tenacity, problem solving skills, and an eagerness to learn are all qualities that we seek in a farmer assistant apprentice. Spanish speaking is a huge plus! Some tasks will be completed alongside our herd manager and others will be independent. While this position is mainly focused on animal husbandry and farm management (not on the cheesemaking or sales part of our business), we always take into account other things you are interested in learning during your time with us. Please note other interests in your cover letter.
Apprentices will be provided lodging in our on-farm camper and receive a stipend of $325/week + goat cheese and other produce.
