IT User Support Technicians

UVA Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking two IT User Support Technicians to join our User Experience & Engagement team in Charlottesville, VA. These positions provide support for ITS customers and constituents across the UVA community and will require on average 50% onsite work.

TheSupport Techniciansanalyze, define, test, troubleshoot, and implement hardware and software technologies for UVA's ITS organization, as well as other assigned organizations within UVA and its affiliates. Duties include supporting desktop, network, server, and shared IT infrastructure resources. This position manages computer hardware, software, licensing, and associated accessories.

We are seeking candidates who are agile, adaptable, learn quickly, and have a strong customer service background. This is an opportunity to stretch your skills and immerse yourself in an environment that promotes team cross-training to grow and build your skill set across several IT areas. Applicants should have some experience and understanding of HD encryption, MS Configuration Manager, KACE, JAMF, GPO, AD Management, as well as experience supporting Windows and Apple OS's. An understanding of security principles and concepts is desirable.

Preferable candidates should have some experience deploying and supporting VM desktops and infrastructure (VMwareWorkstation, VMware Fusion, Hyper-V) with virtualization of applications (VMWare); experience with MDT, SCCM, JAMF, and other tools sets for the rapid installation of OS, hardware imaging, deployment, software installation and patching of Windows 10 machines.

Duties/Responsibilities Include:
  • Analyze/solve problems on complex computer applications and systems for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide a wide range of in-depth technical assistance to departmental user support staff.
  • Provide individual and/or group instruction and training to students, faculty, and/or staff on computer technologies.
  • Provide technical support for research and development initiatives and for the implementation of new technologies.
  • Provide timely resolution of problem or escalation on behalf of the user by maintaining strong working relationships with IT professionals in areas such as network services, software systems engineers, and application developers.
  • Perform system upgrades and new system deployments.
  • Follow proper procedures related to secure computing, account maintenance, and purchasing.
  • Analyze current and proposed departmental/user hardware and software systems; develop and maintain complex systems for the various constituencies within the unit.
  • Review, evaluate, and recommend solutions for hardware and software acquisitions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to support these efforts.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma required; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Tier 2-3 desktop support role
  • Advanced skills in troubleshooting and support for common business applications (Acrobat Pro, Java Runtime Environments,MSbrowsers, MS Office 0365, Safari, and Chrome) is required.

Preferred Experience
  • Background working in a higher education environment
