Community Rides Vermont, a non-profit transportation service serving primarily Washington County with a fleet of electric vehicles, is seeking qualified part-time drivers. Headquartered in Barre, VT, we are looking for friendly, open-minded individuals to safely transport passengers to and from appointments, work, errands, and activities. No two days will be the same as you interact with people from all backgrounds and drive through scenic small towns and backroads. Applicants must be 21 or older, comfortable with company provided smart phones and technology systems, be able to provide physical assistance to passengers with limited mobility when necessary and work varying shifts. Responsibilities

· Operates vehicle fleet in a safe, efficient manner.

· Answers passenger questions and provides information about other services as applicable.

· Arrives for the shift on time, dressed in a clean complete uniform.

· Checks in with office staff at the beginning and the end of each shift.

· Provides physical assistance to passengers with limited mobility when necessary.

· Obeys all applicable traffic laws.

· Friendly, helpful and understanding manner.

· Uses phone to contact office staff to report problems encountered in a route such as bad road conditions, detours, passenger problems, and emergencies.

· Conducts pre-service and post-service vehicle checks before the beginning run and at the end of the day, for safety and cleanliness.

· Fills out reports such as Crash/Incident reports completely and legibly within established timeframes.

· Participates in mandatory training related to driving safety and working with individuals with varying needs.

· Ability to learn, use and operate new technology including, but not limited to, tablets, company smartphone and applications, and vehicle routing software.

·Works varying shifts that could include early mornings, weekend and evening shifts.

-Adapts and problem solves as changes to the driving schedule come up throughout the day.

-Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Must be able to safely and effectively drive every vehicle in Community Ride Vermont’s fleet. A CDL is NOT required for this position.

· Must have sufficient strength and dexterity to assist passengers of varying mobility abilities and if needed help load and unload wheelchairs, groceries and personal items from vehicle trunk.

· Must be able to sit for periods of up to 6 hours with only a very short break. Have the ability, on a routine basis, to bend, stoop, twist, reach, climb stairs, and lift heavy objects up to 35 pounds on a regular basis.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

· Must have had a driver's license for a minimum of three (3) years.

· Must have demonstrated sensitivity to issues related to poverty and the barriers faced by people with low incomes.

· Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, that includes marijuana, and background checks – CRVT Drivers are designated as “safety-sensitive” positions, where a criminal conviction may cause the candidate to be deemed ineligible for hire in that position, regardless of the circumstances. CRVT employees are subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment.

· Must have a polite and professional disposition.

· Must be able to remain calm in stressful driving situations.

· High school diploma is preferred.

· Must be 21 years old or greater.

Pay Range: $19.61 /hr., plus benefits
