Grand Isle Gophers is a growing excavation and sitework company in Grand Isle, Vermont. We are a division of Green Mountain Marine Services, known throughout the region for quality, efficiency, and integrity in every project we undertake. From residential driveways to commercial site prep, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional results in a friendly, professional, and supportive work environment.

We are currently looking for an Excavation Foreman and laborers to join our team and help us continue to grow while maintaining the high standards we’re known for.

Position Summary as the Excavation Foreman:

Lead and manage job sites independently. This is a leadership role for someone who is highly skilled in excavation, sitework, and equipment operation, and who takes pride in maintaining a positive and efficient team environment.

The right candidate will be self-motivated, trustworthy, and capable of running jobs without the need for constant oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and manage day-to-day operations on excavation and sitework projects.

Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, and loaders with proficiency.

Read and interpret project plans, site drawings, and grades.

Coordinate materials, equipment, and labor to ensure smooth project execution.

Lead and motivate crew members while fostering a respectful, positive, and educational work environment.

Ensure safety, quality, and productivity on all job sites.

Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and company management.

Troubleshoot site issues and provide hands-on leadership to solve problems as they arise.

Minimum Requirements

Proven experience in excavation and sitework (minimum 3–5 years preferred).

Strong ability to manage job sites independently without supervision.

Proficient in operating a variety of heavy machinery.

Knowledge of site layouts, grading, trenching, and drainage.

Must be reliable, punctual, and able to make sound decisions on the ground.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

A desire to contribute to a supportive, educational, and positive work culture.

Valid driver’s license required (CDL a plus but not mandatory).

For the Laborers Position- It would be helpful to have some of the above qualifications with at least a general knowledge or some history of excavation or marine work. May include some dock removal in fall months.
