Communications Director

Position Summary:

The Communications Director is a permanent full-time position responsible for the development and implementation of VHCB’s public relations strategy and creation of outreach materials. The Communications Director supports VHCB’s efforts to educate Vermont’s Legislature on how VHCB’s work impacts their communities, increases public awareness of VHCB programs and accomplishments, and coordinates VHCB’s engagement with the press and public affairs. As the leader of VHCB’s public relations efforts, the Communications Director prepares legislative presentations, writes and distributes press releases, manages VHCB’s websites and social media content, produces VHCB publications, reports, and newsletters, and assists VHCB program staff with their communication and outreach efforts.

Qualifications:

Committed to supporting VHCB’s mission;

Strong creative skills in visual and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite; effective use of typography and photography;

Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the development and execution of communications and public relations activities including writing press releases and working with the media;

Entrepreneurial and self-motivated – excited to enhance VHCB’s organizational reputation, and driven to increase public awareness of community resources;

Project management experience/skills to oversee the design and production of print materials and publications including writing, editing and proofreading, and graphic design with strong attention to detail;

Ability to use data to create visual representations of information (in the form of graphs, charts, infographics, etc.) to convey complex information in a straight-forward and digestible format;

Facility with organizational systems (database, file management systems);

Competence with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel); Adobe Creative Suite for page layout, image manipulation and file processing (including InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat); WordPress or a similar website management platform; email marketing platform (such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact);

Experience with social media management;

Demonstrated experience with event planning;

Strong communication skills including writing, storytelling, and presenting;

Team player with ability to manage deadlines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment;

Experience or interest working with non-profit organizations and government organizations;

Knowledge, interest or experience in housing, conservation, community development, and/or social and environmental justice.

Compensation: $72,000 - $79,500 commensurate with experience. Excellent comprehensive benefits package including generous health care plan, dental coverage, Life Insurance, Long and Short-term disability insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, Employee Assistance Program, and more.
