Kitchen Assistant Needed

Maplehill School and Farm seeks an experienced kitchen worker for a part-time position preparing meals for an agricultural-based alternative school on three Plainfield community campuses. The position works directly with the Farm-To-Table Coordinator and AmeriCorps staff members. It requires attention to cleanliness and detail, punctuality, and the ability to work with middle- and high-school-age students.

Maplehill School is a safe, caring, land-based educational community on 230 acres in central Vermont. Students engage in academics, social/emotional learning, service projects, vocational exploration, recreational activities, farming, and gardening. We emphasize restorative practices, self-reflection, and clear empathic communication. You will join a team that works closely with students, staff, and families. Maplehill School serves a maximum of 38 students on three campuses.

The position runs from August through June, with two months off in the Summer, and the starting wage is $21.00 per hour based on experience. Send resume and letter of interest.

Kitchen Assistant Job Description

Title: Part-Time Kitchen Helper

Maplehill School and Farm seeks a part-time experienced kitchen worker for a 25-hour-a-week (8:00 am-1:00 pm, five days a week) position preparing meals for an alternate school program in Plainfield, Vermont.

Supervised by: Farm-to-Table Coordinator/Kitchen Manager

Overall Responsibility:

The Kitchen Helper supports the Farm-To-Table Coordinator in preparing meals for students and Maplehill School and Farm staff. This position will work directly with the Farm-To-Table Coordinator and AmeriCorps staff members and often interact with students.

Job Function and key areas of responsibility are to:

Prepare and serve food

Assist with maintaining inventory

Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with the State Sanitation Guidelines

Support students in food preparation activities

Perform other duties as requested

Core Competencies:

Must be able to complete the Vermont ServeSafe Food Handler certification course within 90 days

Ability to follow directions, stay on task, and complete assigned tasks promptly

Ability to follow schedules with punctuality
